Myanmar/Burma with Kids

We're thinking of taking our children (ages 5 and 7) to Rangoon at the end of October. It will be a first visit for all of us. Any thoughts (pro/con) on this would be appreciated.

Not sure thats a good idea.

Went there few years back it was scary. Travelling thru the area many times stopped by the military with guns pointed on us for id checks.

In town although it had a great gem factory and you could get great deals, again not the place for little kids. Many street urchins running around trying to get at your money.
