First time to PHILIPPINES
Posted by GemmaL (879 days ago)
Been here so many years and never been to the Philippines. Where's the best place to go? Quiet, nice accommodation. Five Star. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

GemmaL,
Check out this site for general travel info:

Depends on what you want to do actually, or how long you intend to stay. But the following cities/places are worth including in your shortlist:
CEBU
Shangri-la Mactan--don't miss the Chi Spa. http://www.shangri-la.com/cebu/mactanisland/en/index.aspx
BORACAY (no 5-star hotels here yet-- I heard they're building the Shang already), but the beach resorts below are beautiful:
Mandala Spa, Nami Villas, Waling-waling, Fridays..check other threads re Bora too
PALAWAN
Amanpulo in Pamalican Island

MANILA
Makati Shangri-la, The Peninsula
If you want some nightlife, interesting restos and enjoy a little shopping, then your best bet will be MAKATI

There is more to the Philippines than beaches. You might like to consider a trip north to Baguio (the 'summer capital' as it is higher and cooler), the beautiful mountains and trekking in the north and, especially, Banaue the base for exploring the world famous rice terraces. Banaue is a small town, very tourist friendly with accommodation from poncy hotel to basic guesthouses and a good range of souvenir shops selling traditional products of the area. Buses are good. Search the net for bus routes Luzon.

I would like to suggest that you stay at Amanpulo, if the very expensive tariff is managable, otherwise the Lagen Island Resort at El Nido.
Details of both of these properties can be found in Concorde Travel's website www.concorde-travel.com Feel free to call me, Graham at Concorde Travel 2526 3391.

Mactan Island in Cebu has lots of nice places. Plantation Bay is very nice and I heard the Shangrila is terrific.

I stayed 4 times at the MacTan Shangri-La. The food was bloody awful - the cooking not the actual quality of the seafood which was great.
