Can anyone tell me how I would get to the Carribean? What airlines, where to interchange if any? Someone told me it takes 30 hours to get there!

Call Concorde Travel on 2426 3391, ask for Cecilia, she will be able to help you, I have always found her very helpful. You will need to be quite specfic on where you want to get to and when, as these flights usually have to go through American 'gateway' cities.

You can fly either via the US or Europe. I did it via San Fransisco and Miami and the connections were horrible. The return journey was even worse. I think if I was douing it again, I would go via London or Amsterdam.

why travel so far? you could have much better in asia and at much cheaper? Forget about all the hideouts for westerners who live nearby. for you living in HKG, Asia is the best in every sense.

rititt,
Unless you've done both you won't know if 'you could have much better in asia'.
Pabmove,
There are a lot of places worth visiting and each island has its own culture. Island hopping is also not that expensive.
If you're flying from HKG you'd be best transiting Atlanta, Miami, New York or Toronto alternatively, transit through London is the best option.
If you break the journey it's not so bad - you can also pick up quite cheap packages from London.

Asia is great but just wanted to try something else.
I have ten days of holidays so I thought I take my girl somewhere nice so I thought of the carribean.
Looks like the consensus is to fly from London. Does anyone know how long it takes?

i don't think there's a better place than asia for quality of service and of everything at a fraction of the price in other countries. moreover, people are more friendly. I really don't know why there is a need to go elsewhere for worse and more expensive unless you want to experience something difference but in general the difference makes you pay more and you get much less, that's my experience.

london and any other cities in the US, it won't be fun for the transit you will be subjected to search and long delay....and if there's another terrorist threat, you'd be stucket in the airport for a few days and bye-bye to your holidays. I suggest you get some insurance for that. and concerning the food, it's really bad, so expect it.

Rititt, I've been to many places in Asia already and I agree ppl are friendlier etc...
However, I just wanted to try somewhere else.
As for ter... threats - life goes on and there is no point in being too paranoid

rititt,
"...the food, it's really bad, so expect it."
What absolute drivel. Where did you go in the Caribbean? Guantanamo Bay?
Maybe you should try Mo'Bay next time. Food throughout the Caribbean is as good as you can get anywhere in Asia.
Pabmove -
Check out UK sites like lastminute.com or ebookers.com and you should be able to get something to fit in with HKG - LON flights.
If you just want flights BA, virgin, Air Jamaica and a few others fly direct from LON to the Caribbean. Flight time is around 9 hours with a 5 hour time difference.

alright, that was for my taste but if you like those food then it's fine with me, can't argue taste, it's too personal.
30hrs to go, 30 hrs to return = 60 hrs + jet lag + all the times lost to "adventure" and being cheated (all tourists are cheated, that is a natural law), i don't think it's the type of holidays for me.
I suggest that you go to those places as a tag on, only when you go to US or Europe but going there just to be there is a total waster of time and money! and to see something that you can here in Asia. That was only my opinion.
Good luck.

rtitt,
Agree with you it's best to go as a tag on from the US, particularly if you're in New York or Miami.
As you say, going non-stop from here wastes a day and a bit in either direction so a 10 day holiday would leave you about 7 days IF all the connections go smoothly!

As someone from the Caribbean who travels there once a year from here I can tell you the following. HK to New York (JFK) then you can connect from JFK to almost anywhere in the Caribbean....Puerto Rico, Jamaica, etc. Or you can fly HK to London and from there to the Caribbean. The food is great, the people are friendly and the beach is very similar to ones you can find in Asia. Hurricane season is still underway though this year doesn't seem to be as bad previous ones.

Best way to pick up cheap packages to the Carribbean is in the States - L.A., New York. "British" Caribbean is better run but "American" Caribbean is alot more fun.
