H A I R FALLING
Posted by Sindhi Crawford (275 days ago)
Its not like the water is bad or something in HK like it is in some cities. Yes we all have some hair falling daily which is normal but I'm starting to get worried with the amount of my hair falling.
There are some chinese hair tonics/capsules, has anyone taken them? I know they work but once you stop your hair starts to fall all over again...

Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory

Sindhi,
I was just writing an article on this very subject and took a break and found your thread. I need to know several things of which you can tell me here or if you prefer privacy you can e-mail me or stop by so I can see what you are dealing with (preferred).
I will give you some ground work but again this is kind of the shot gun approach not knowing a few personal details. First and foremost, this is normal at many points in our lives. Stress is the largest cause here in HK as is the environment and our food intake. Environment plays a big part and as for the water, it may look safe, but its VERY high in chlorine and other minerals. I had the water tested when I first arrived, as I do when working in a new city, to see how it would play on my colors and to know how balance my reconditioning services, its not something I would drink and I would suggest a shower filter that screws on at least. Then we go to the hormone department and age, a sore subject with me lately as I have lost allot as well. There are many hormone fluctuations that a woman goes through in life and it varies as to if you have had children and how late in life you have had them. You can also have a food allergy but this one is very rare and I would doubt this area. That said, I was perplexed when I moved here to hear about all the hair loss that people were dealing with. When it started to effect me I called a few of the Chemists I have worked with over the years as well as Trico Lab in the UK to look into a few things. We looked at all the similarities in the clients I had and it looked as if stress and environment could not account for the amount of hair loss were seeing nor the longevity. We did however find one common element that everyone seemed to be around...MSG. I cannot prove it conclusively, as that would require allot of lab work, but it makes sense if you study MSG and how it effects the body. It can reduce the circulation on the skin surface ( a simplified explanation sorry) I was told and it is also a diuretic meaning it dehydrates you. Combine those two and the Folecule gets less nutrients and ends up dehydrated, a very bad combination because this weakens the bond or attachment .points at the base of the hair shaft. Throw in a bit old HK stress, I hear we have that here, and you have the perfect recipe for hair loss of this type. Well, thats the theory we came up with. I myself avoid MSG anyway but did not when I first moved here and my loss was time delayed as it would be in this case.
Now, as for prevention or what to do...first remember that hair is a waste byproduct essentially and picks up anything you ingest into your system. Knowing this the better ingredients you supply the healthier the hair. Supplements like Biotin, Essential Fatty acid and Niacin can help as well as a good Muti-vitamin in capsule form. Your hair is made of aprox. 97% protein and 3% water, give or take...so it makes sense as well to take a good balanced Whey protein shake each day and drink plenty of water.
What to avoid...Stress, alcohol, caffine in any form, and anything .
Well..its 3am and I have a full day tomorrow, please let me know if you need any further help...I have a page or two on my site devoted to this issue as well and you may want to look up the page on hair growth cycles....cheers
I sent you a message on another topic as well

i was on a diet with little red meat and was quite stressed from work. i noticed my hair around my forehead was getting less dense. i thought at first it was hormonal.
I used Nioxin bioactive moisturising treatment. spray on once a day and i noticed hair growing after 5 days. i didn't want to rely on chemicals so i only used it for a month. my hair did not fall off after i stopped.
after a regular health check, it turned out that i became slightly anemic due to the meatless diet. am eating red meat again and everything has grown back (better than nioxin).
stress apparently inhibits food from absorbing properly by killing off the healthy bacterial flora and cofactors in your digestive system (they need Vit B) and leads to nutrient defiencies.
you can give it a try. good luck.

We can chat first and then if necessary I will take you to a few suppliers of mine to pick up some things like supplements and such. Just call me personally and I will put you in my book, anytime is good except sunday...cheers.

B78,
If you go to my web site you will find all pertinent contact information including both professional and personal contact information. The web site is to the left named "Hair Questions". I try not to post any contact information here directly, no one should actually as Paul/Ed has put in place a set of guidelines and things work much better when we follow them. The web site has allot of information on this and other subjects, tell your husband to look it over a bit. I look forward to meeting you both...cheers
