In search of amazing hairdresser

Posted by Croft_or_not (231 days ago)
When I moved to HK 2 years ago, I noticed my hair thinning and falling out. I went to a western doctor and was given folic acid. It helped, but the hair loss became so dramatic, that I had most of my hair cut off into a bob.
Being vain, I decided a few months after the bob that I wanted long hair again, so contrary to the advice of a lovely stylist, I chose a hairdresser who supplied me with extensions. Four months later when the extensions were taken out, I found that the extensions took with them half my hair.
So I waited another 6 months. My hair is now fuller on top, but the bottom parts of my hair is still thin and sparse.
So - to my questions - does anyone know an amazing hairdresser that might even specialize in problem hair? I need someone who really knows their trade and can deal with the mess on my head.
I would be v v v grateful for any help and suggestions anyone can offer.
Grateful in advance!

The extension issue is a great topic and as you can testify they can have very detrimental effects. First and foremost, your hair will grow back is just going to take some time. Remember that your hair is a waste by product, it receives its nutrients last and whatever you ingest will end up there for good or bad. This is why Hair is the most reliable resource for drug testing and such. So, in the mean time feed your hair as you would a plant good ingredients and lots of water, simplistic I know but you get the point. Hair, comprised mainly of Protein and Water can benefit from items such as Protein Supplements, ( I usually suggest Whey the first month and then alternate with an Egg Protein every other month). If your active you want about 1 grams to every 7 to 8 pounds of body weight ( that is completely subjective as I take double that, but it’s a good base) Just remember that you can only digest about 32 to 40 grams of Protein in a sitting so 2 shakes a day is fine. Then, LOTS of WATER!!!!!!!
In short, the cleaner and healthier the system the healthier the hair there are other supplements I put my clients on such as Niacin, Biotin, Organic Capsule based multi, Iron for women. We can discuss that further if you like later….okay Extensions.
Extensions were, first and foremost, never intended for long term (month long or longer) usage. They were originally developed in the ethnic market and for special effect based applications. Later they found their way into the public arena on a much larger scale. I have used them and still do in very specific ways and when the situation demands it. But I can tell you honestly that other than one or two close friends in LA and NY who are in film, no one educates the client on the negative aspects or on the use of supplements’ or proper care. And in a climate like Hong Kong you are looking for trouble long term.
I am not trying to be an alarmist, but long term use can and often does lead to exactly what they tel you they are supposed to combat, hair loss. Why? There are several reasons here but the main one is this, when you put an extension in your hair you bind it to a group of say 100 hair strands with a polymer or glue. This then adds excess weight to the follicles which, as with any stress the body encounters, it looks for a solution (example, you’re sick the body manifests a fever, basic stimulus response)_So now you have this excess weight and stress and a your body takes that as a threat and responds by decreasing the amount of nutrients to the follicle. This then results in hair loss. The good thing is if you catch it the first time it usually grows back. But with repeated use you condition the body to feel as if it needs a more permanent solution thus you end up with thin hair.
Many of you look at TV personalities and their constant changes, true. But having worked with a great many of these people I must tell you its an illusion. Many celebrities (manly female) have horrible hair loss due to wig use and extensions. When you see them in print or TV allot of times they are using Zero Hair Line wigs. These bled into the skin with makeup but are VERY expensive.
I am rambling now, sorry… I hope this gives you some insight and congratulations’ on freeing yourself from the extensions. With the right ingredients and care you can have it naturally…cheers
PS...you seemed to need further advice so feel free to look on the web site, if you need anything else I can always make some calls for you if I do not have the information.
