indian beauty parlor in HK
Posted by bban (1568 days ago)
Does anyone know of an indian style beauty parlor in HK? Basically I'm looking for a place that does threading. It doesn't need to be very fancy; I just need to get my eyebrows done - I by that I mean threaded, not waxed or colored or anything else. Help! Thanks

Bban
Threading is available in many of the beauty salons in HK. Don't know of any indian style beauty parlour but if it's just eyebrow threading that you're after, most salons should do the job.

Someone over in Practical recommended this place; prices look very reasonable -- haven't tried it out myself yet so can't offer any first-hand feedback!

Does anyone know of a salon in Tokyo that does eye brow threading (preferrably near roppongi) but please let me know if you know of any in Tokyo. THanks.

Kinu at Khoobsurat is pretty good at threading eyebrows. Have tried them all (almost) and she definitely gets a good review from me.
For waxing, prefer Shubnam in Golden Crown Mansion (Nathan Road)also over on the "dark side", simply because her place offers more privacy when being waxed. Highly recommended- family & friends have been going to her for years.
Unlike many, these 2 charge the same price regardless of your skin colour.

i totally agree wuth deviliciously - kinu (khoobsurat)is the best for threading and shabnum best for waxing .. dont really get waxing done with kinu . shabnum is very good and quick as well .

Where exactly is Shabnum's place and is it called Shabnum or something else?

Posted by deviliciousv (1564 days ago)
Shabnum works on the 9th floor of Golden Crown Mansion in TST. If you're taking the MTR you get out of Exit D towards Nathan Road and cross the street on the left. The building is next to/near Blue Star. You can call her at 23693378. Everyone just calls it Shabnum's. Her sisters also go to people's homes if you prefer someone coming over, they will charge extra and go if you want more stuff done like waxing, not just eyebrow threading.
Also suggest you don't go on a Saturday afternoon unless you have no other choice, you might have to wait a short while if they're busy waxing other people.

I went to Shabnum's place yesterday and I have got to say that I came out with the most perfect set of eyebrows!!! She was kinda fast with the threading, but it didnt hurt, and I was worried that she might be making my brows too thin, but wow, when I looked in the mirror I was certainly more than impressed!! I will definitely be going back there again.

Just read the price list for Khoobsurat, very cheap. However, there is no mention of bikini wax. Do they do it?

Went to this place last year - didn't like it at all. Never went back to the "dark side" again. There is no privacy, hygience is so so. You will be the only gweilo there and all the other customers will stare at you like you're from outer space or something. Seriously, it's not worth the money you save to trapes all the way over there.

Agree with Di.
bdi, if you're looking for a reasonable hairdresser I would recommended Hajira, she did my haircut and I just went for a treatment for my dry hair 2 weeks ago. She's good and also inexpensive. If you're interested you can contact her on 64487171 and her salon is in TST Mody Road.

Di and sara-k, do you mean you didn't like all these indian parlors mentioned above in TST or any particular one?
Lastly, does anyone know this type of Indian parlor in Central area? Preferably with Ayurvedic treatment?
Many thanks

I've been to the salon in TST mentioned above and I agree that hygiene is an issue, but for the price that's more or less what one would expect ($60 for threading the whole face).

mmpishere>> i have her mobile no. if that would help, its 91474790. you call her and ask her the location and price etc. FYI, she can come to ur house also. i normally call her for threading and hand and legs waxing. u ask her whatever u want to know.

there is an indian parlor called La Bella its in TST, i go there its pretty sanitary and this lady Anita is good, does the eye brows pretty well, they are also cheaper than Shubnam, but not sure if better, havent been to shubnam before. The waxing however, they wax your hair in any direction not the direction of the growth. the lady Ruby isnt very nice, she started complaining about the fact that i shave sometimes and that my hair was too long - and that i should come every month - which i do - not my fault that my hair grows fast.
But Anita is really really nice and good!

I didn't mean all Indian beauty parlors are not good. But just from our personal experience that I think there is hygiene problem.

Was it Khoob Surat that wasn't very hot on hygiene? Has anyone else any experience of this place? Their prices look so good, but if it's filthy I'll give it a miss!

Do you know in Khoob Surat there is no water source ... the water comes in by the bucket from elsewhere.
Also, Khoob Surat is not a registered business in Hong Kong which I think means that it does not get inspected by the Health Department but I am not certain about this - can anyone verify?
I have been to see Reeta in Causeway Bay she is registered with the government and her place is not so untidy at times dust but not unclean.

Well you end up paying either the "darkside prices" (20-60 dollars) vs. the salon prices (200+ dollars) for threading.
I would say if you find someone who can do it well, stick to them, even if the place isn't spotless.
The alternative is going to some salon with impeccable hygiene standards, but not being sure about the threading techniques... and ending up with wonky eyebrows!

Alright, this is long overdue; I should have posted this a long time ago. Khoob Surat was recommended to me by Gandalf almost a year ago (I started this thread asking for recommendations) and I have been going to her very regularly since then and I am very happy. But there are some things to keep in mind. Most people (as far as I can tell) go there either for threading or waxing. She has a very large, loyal and satisfied clientele who are mostly Indian (I've probably never seen a white person there, occasionally Phillipina and Chinese). Is hygiene an issue? Well not really for me since I just go there for threading and don't really care where the water comes from. But it is located in Mirador mansion - so what do you expect. But if you can negotiate your way through the corridors and stairs of Mirador, trust me you'll be fine in her place as well. After all there's a reason why her prices are so low. What matters is her skill which is very good. She's a pro at threading.

I have been going to Khoob Surat for 3 years and I am english & white. No one stares! I like the place and would definitely defend their reputation too. No nonsense beauty treatment.. If you want huge floral arrangements on reception, fawning therapists & fancy interiors, you are definitely going to the wrong place. It's a bit rough and ready & they wax fast & furious ( 15 minutes, full leg!) with a butter knife and what I can only imagine is toffee . Not for the faint-hearted. Their waxing is great & I have never had a pore problem from it the whole time. They do a good job. Her eyebrow threading's spot on too!
And frankly- show me a business in Mirador Mansions that HAS got all the paperwork..

I went to Khoob Surat in Mirador Mansions, TST recently, and I have to say that I didn't have a great experience. The place was exactly as I expected, so no surprises as I was not expecting plush carpeting and soft music, but the young woman who did my bikini wax was without doubt very inexperienced and I felt just like a guinea pig. When I made the appointment I asked for Kinu, as advised on here, but she seemed a bit too busy on ICQ or Messenger. The same young woman did my pedicure, and on closer inspection it was second rate at best. Another employee arrived during my pedicure and she threaded my eyebrows (even after I'd asked for a second time for Kinu to do them) and she actually did a very good job. Unfortunately the only thing I would recommend about them is their low prices.

I have been going to a indian beauty parlour in Wanchai called Riveia Beauty Parlour. Reena is the person who is working other. I must admit that the place is very clean and has a very nice decoration and air con on all the time with some good indian music if you are indian or good english music if you are white. The prices are reasonable. Whole face threading is about $70 and she also offers facials, waxings and hair treatments. The best thing is that you don't have to wait as she books you an appointment according to what you need to do. I would say that this is the best parlour I have ever been to in Hong Kong ever since. It's also very near from where I work in Central - 15 mins by tram. Please send me a msg if you need her contacts.

Tried threading in Mirador, I went to the second floor if I'm not mistaken, it cost 50HK dollar.
Walking around Guangzhou near my university I found two middle-aged ladies threading whole face for 8RMB!
They did a thorough job, much better than the Mirador lady.

I noticed that the regular salon that I go to isn't mentioned here. I go to a place in TST called Fareeda's Salon. Before Fareeda's I went to Khoobsurat for a quick eyebrow fix and no waxing befcause honestly that place is a mess. However Fareeda's is great, its in an apartment with the main livingroom turned into a manicure, haircut/hair style place, 1 bedroom for waxing (lots of privacy) another bedroom for facials and it has a proper bathroom and kitchen. Its not a one woman show either, they have a couple of girls working there. They offer 3 types of wax for waxing and you can choose what type you want. The prices are similar to other Indian salons so its not expensive at all. Its located right infront of the TST mosque I can't remember the name of the building but this is their number and you can walk in or make an appointment. I usually call 10 minutes before going there 35800447.

Until I found one in Guangzhou, cost 8RMB.

quick question - why would anyone want to thread their whole face? if you happen to be caught on vacation without a threading salon to go to, wouldnt ur hair grow and cover your entire face? curious...
(I am based in Hong Kong)
Posted by mayita (832 days ago)
Threading, when correctly done, does not break the hairs. Same as waxing.
lots of women have got down (very fine hairs) on upper lip / cheeks which they don't like esp. if faire faced / black haired. While in Europe, most of us will then bleach the "mustache", in India they prefer to thread it.
Threading is less damaging than wax on the face, and more precise (that's for the hairbrow part). And, as wax, doesn't gtow back thick & black but softer & softer...
Any other question Chiki ?

hi there! La Bellezza in TST is also quite good. Have been going to them since the last 5 yrs. Girl called samar does gr8 eyebrows. She's a bit talkative and can be little irritating some times, but she does good eyebrows. Its in the same bldg as the Hindu Temple in CARNAVARON MANSION on the 7th floor. Can contact the owner Preeti on23679497 or 98038790 for appointment. The other girl Ruby who used to be there earlier is not there now.

Can I just second the vote on Riveia Salon in Wanchai. Just been there myself and right now she's got this special going where you get threading included with a full one hour facial for around 150 dollars. It was out of this world - probably even better than the one I had recently a top hotel spa. Am amazed. This has to be the bargain of the year.

I used to go to Reena at Rivea. At first I thought she was great.........She gives you an appointment time and tells you clearly on the phone not to be late however, the last 3 times I went she kept me waiting and waiting. As I work and used to go at lunchtime it started to really get on my nerves. The final straw was when she forgot 2 appointments she had with me in a row! She is basically a victim of her own success and cannot handle the amount of customers she has. I did not even get a sorry. A number of my friends had similar experiences.
I now go to Khubsoorat in TST as it is right next to MTR stop even though it is in TST I find it less of a hassle as I just walk in whenever I want without having to stick to appointment times (that don't actually exist). Hope this helps but obviously everyone's experiences are different.

Don't bother going to Reena at Rivea, like Chilli (above) I used to go there too. As an Expat, I am very busy and do not have time to wait endlessly. I used to go to Reena as she would set me an appointment but honestly, the last 3 times I have had to sit there and wait for at least 45 minutes both times. Whats the point in setting an appointment if you can't keep it. Even Doctors are more on time than her! The last time she kept me waiting for 20 minutes before she even turned up. I was ringing and ringing her cell and she just didn't answer. I didn't get a sorry either and after an hour of waiting she charged me full price! I was late to my next appointment and the constant stories about why she is late is just tyring. To be honest, she has no idea of how to run a business. Her shop is really small up some dirty old Chinese building too with little to no privacy in the most tiny cubicles. No cream after the waxing either, if you want it you need to ask for it. Otherwise you get a dirty old wet towel that she brushes down your body. Yuck! At first I didn't mind so much, but its just not worth the bother anymore. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.

Got a lot of information from this post so thot I would put in my feedback. Have been going to Reena in Wanchai for some time now, she is good but is completely inflexible about availability, I work and cant make it on weekedays and she is available only for half days on saturday. plus she keeps getting these new women and she wants you to allow them to 'practice' on you, last time this woman did my threading and god did it hurt, I had to stop her. Its quite frustrating cos i feel like she is the client rather than me, am looking for option on HK island.

I recently went to newly open parlour "LOOKS". they are very good and service is also exellent. They do have sliming program..and first time in my life I like my eyebrow's shape...They do have nice Sarees, suits and Kurta's. It is in Hung Hom, on 22A San Lau Street, near Hung Hom Post office. Give them a call at 6425 1190.

Hi sk76,
You can take 101 or 111 bus from Central. After Cross Harbour Tunnel, you have to get off at the second stop. On the right hand side there is a 7-eleven. after getting off from the bus, cross the traffic flights and walk straign. Walk along San Lau Street for few blocks then you will see there parlour. It is on 1/Fl., On the ground floor there is a Property Agency. it is 22A San Lau Street. Hope it works or call Priya 6425 1190.
