Camelot Heights Wanchai?

ORIGINAL POST

I'm looking to rent (maybe buy) a place in Wanchai and am looking at a 3 bedroom at Camelot Heights on Kennedy Road. I dislike the crazy drive up!! But I have been told by my estate agent that a lift is being built. I have also heard rumours that it's noisy from both outdoor and indoor (noise.

Anybody have any experiences or thoughts? Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

A place called "Camelot" might be prone to exaggeration

I lived in Camelot Hts (only rented). It's noisy. Really noisy. The sound proofing in the building is atrocious. I could hear my upstair's neighbour everytime they used their toilet or walked around or had their tv on. I complained a few times but the management company doesn't seem to care or do anything about it (and their english is poor so who knows if they even understood me). Outside noise was ok. I could hear street traffic but that's to be expected on a busy street. I only lasted one year there as a result.

Good luck!!

You'd have to be pretty dumb to pay 19m for any apartment at Camelot Heights. Maybe a sign of the property bubble in Hong Kong.

Really old and run down building. I looked at a 3 bedroom and it was horrible. I can't comment on the noise issues mentioned already but the whole building needed a long hose down and a good fix me up! The apartment itself wasn't much better. It was depressing. It had been on sale for over a year and if you saw it you'd know why. I was told that it's mainly old people who own/live there and have lived there for years so don't care much about upgrades and keeping things modern looking.

I think the 19m property was on the market for a long time as it was having trouble selling. Assuming it's the same flat. We looked at 1 in the summer and still saw it available as of CNY. We also saw another smaller place but we just walked out as it was really decrepit - looked like a seedy bordello which hadn't maintained (as bordellos look on tv/movies!!).

A LOOK BACK

... To when the Peak was really the Peak, Mid-levels was midway there, and Wanchai was ... well, WanChai:

In those early days, Kowloon really was "the dark side", and not just referred to that way by unadventurous Mid-Ronners

I am slowly co-opting this thread... into a HK video thread - for those "in the know."

I do hope AX-HK123 does not mind too much. It will help keep his original request on the front page, and so he will get more feedback. So maybe it will suit his purpose too.

Other than the odd videos which have nothing to do with this thread, this was a good thread as I am in the process of renting/buying a property too. No way I'd buy something at Cam Heights as it's a 1930s building which they dont' take care of (and see comments above from others too which I agree with) but it would be great if there was there some database or other source of property reviews similar to OpenRice (for restaurants) so the general public could say positive/negative comments of local buildings.

Glad I found this thread as was seriously considering renting at Camelot Heights. Estate agent kept promising that the new elevator would be built by summer (yeah right!!) and that the building was well-maintained. I took a look a couple of times but was not sure and had some concerns. But after the comments above, I asked around and have heard similar issues with Camelot Heights being very loud and noisy as the sound proofing is not good as it is an old building. Really like the property review comment from thegodfather. If you hear of such a website or company, please let me know.

Someone made a comment earlier that Camelot Heights had a heavy presence of old people. I found that comment funny. What's wrong with old people?? I saw a lot of grandfatherly/grandmotherly residents on my visits but nothing wrong with that. Sure it can be depressing but the opposite is a Prive club atmosphere?? Nothing wrong with a lot of canes and wheelchairs. I don't like kids anyways!!

Without the Videos. the interest in this thread would be close to zero for long periods of time.

However, from one PM that I have received, there seems to be a "sense of humor failure" from one person
