Need to Rectify Unauthorised Alterations on my Flat

I bought at old flat 2 years ago and had it checked briefly and was told at the time that there was no unauthorised alterations on it.

I have now been told by the management that there are indeed unauthorised alterations and they are now demanding that I rectify them or they will report me to the buildings department.

I am really angry about this but there is no point arguing, I need to find a qualified person who can advise what the unauthorised alterations are, and what I need to do to rectify them. The management used CBRE as their consultants; should I appoint CBRE as well since they have already done the work, or am I going to be ripped off since they are such a huge firm?

Also, how much should I expect to pay the consultant to get this done (not including the appointment of a contractor to fix it).

Thank you.

Mine is a ground floor flat with access to an open area outside. I don't know what the unauthorised alterations are exactly, but according to the management they relate to the outside area. I asked them for specifics but they told me it is my responsibility to engage a consultant to find out what the alterations are, and then rectify them. They won't tell me anymore.

I would wait for a formal notice from the Buildings Department. You will be given a window of time in which to comply and you will know exactly what the issue is. If you do something now, you risk having to do the work twice if the consultant does not get it right the first time around. You'll also be paying them to identify the problem as well as come up with a way to fix it.
