Apartment Rental at Celestial Heights in Ho Man Tin

Can anyone share with me what the living condition is like at Celestial Heights in Ho Man Tin? I was told the building facility is nice but the building management or maintenance is sub standard. How about the hygiene of the building? I heard there are a lot of bugs (especially cockroaches) in the apartment building. I am considering signing the leasing agreement but if this is true then I have second thought. Thanks in advance for the insights!

I currently live at CH. From the exterior it looks nice.....that's about it. My wife and I hate the fact that the estate is filling up causing the common areas to be congested eg. the parkade, front driveway, and clubhouse. Most of the newcomers are mainlanders and their manners and habits are left to be desired. Many families hang their laundry on the front balcony (which is not allowed), smoking, spitting in the sauna and pool, driving in the wrong direction in the parkade, etc. We did have cockroaches in the lift lobby. Quality of the flat is ok. Management and maintenance is very spotty. The front entrance gate is a joke....such a waste of manpower. And parking stalls are only for rent $3800/month; that's almost Central pricing. We are looking to move.....very soon.

mjmwong88 - I just saw this thread now. Have you guys moved already? We live at CH as well and its becoming a bit of a disaster. We are at the verge of breaking our lease with the landlord. If you have moved, can you share with me where? We can't seem to find anything for this price range with the size. I guess that is the only redeeming factor of CH =(

I just want to reiterate to everyone just how much Celestial Heights suck! Other than the fact that it sucks, our main concern is safety. If you have small children make sure you stay away. What mambo and mjmwong mentioned above are all true. Plumbing is horrible. Stick emits from the drain no matter how often you pour bleach down the drain. We can't wait to move out because summer is coming around and that means the army of roaches will soon be returning too. Multiple accidents have already happened in the podium area because the geniuses who built this place used slippery tiles. During the past few months of rain, many taxis and even school buses picking and dropping kids off have skidded and crashed into each other. If anyone wants to know more, I can keep going.

Hi, we moved to Celestial Heights two months ago and we think it is a great place! Here are some pros and cons which might help to give a more objective assessment:

Pros:

- newly built and so fresh,

- many flats with fantastic views, some overlooking the harbor,

- balcony with o.k. size

- kitchen with Miele appliances (stove with three gas flames and two induction, micro, steamer, oven, wine fridge),

- nice bath rooms,

- a 50 m outdoor pool, a 50 m indoor pool - where else do you find that in HK?

- one of the best gyms I have seen in any complex - and I looked at pretty many before we chose CH,

- lots of other facilities (aerobic room, pool room, music rooms, play room, a big freestanding glass pavilion to be rented for your parties and a pro-active management organizing good events),

- close to sport grounds, tennis courts (much cheaper than on the HK side) and parks,

- everything within the complex - shops (among others a rather big Taste), doctors etc.

- the school bus takes our son to Aberdeen with only a 15 min longer commute than when we lived in Happy Valley,

- substantially lower rents than on the HK side

- and we actually are a couple of Western (I have met six) and Indian (around five) families, who live here, so it is not completely Chinese:-)

- convenient and frequent bus services to every spot in Hong Kong, but ...

Cons:

- the closest MTR is Yau Ma Tei, which means that commuting times can be unpredictable during rush hours,

- as in most recently built complexes not the most efficient use of the footage,

- if you need the Chanels, LVs etc. around the corner, the shopping environment might be a little too Chinese, but we have started to explore the restaurants nearby and although not represented in the Michelin guide there are a lot of very nice and cheap ones.

Hope this helps to give a more objective view on Celestial Heights and it would be nice to have some more from our part of the world in the neighborhood.

It is good to get a more balanced view, including one from someone who actually lives there
