Experts may have advised not to "sell in May," but there's a new cloud on the horizon.

It's not about economic data or the European crisis - but veteran TV actor Adam Cheng Siu-chow, pictured.

A drama about a magician, - Master of Play - will air on TVB from May 21, with Cheng playing one of the main characters.

In the past, when dramas with Cheng as protagonist were to air, the stock market plummeted. It started back in October 1992, when The Greed of Man was shown. The Hang Seng Index fell by more than 20.6 percent within a month. Then in November 1994, when Instinct was shown, the HSI dropped 20.5 percent in a month.

Brokerage house CLSA wrote a report on the "Adam Cheng Effect" in 2004. And more recently, on March 30 2009, the HSI fell by 4.7 percent. That was the first day Cheng's The King of Snooker aired.

In other news, HSI down ~2.5% today (-500 points) at the interday.

Presumeably, he invests his acting salary in puts, and gains twice from those parts he takes.

Gasp. Oh noo!!!. I too laughed at this when I had no money in stocks but now I take this news seriously. It has become such a self-fulfilling prophesy that he could make more being paid not to star in soap operas Does anyone know when the series is due to end?
