The Most Exotic Train Journey in the World
Beyond South-East Asia's vibrant cities, among dense rainforests and towering mountains, is a world of diverse landscapes and colourful cultures. This remarkable region is traversed by a train of immense charm and romance. This is the Eastern & Oriental Express, which carries passengers in luxury through Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Merely stepping aboard the carriages of the train is a thrill in itself. Passengers may relax in the Reading Room, enjoy a cocktail in the Bar Car or let their senses unwind in the Observation Car.

Featured Recommendation: Sofitel Metropole, Hanoi
This classic hotel first opened its doors in 1901 and has been renovated to its full colonial splendour. They have recently added a new wing that stays true to the original architecture however we decided to stay in one of the original rooms in the old wing (slightly more expensive) to relive a bit of history. There are a number of very good restaurants in the hotel however I’d recommend Le Beaulieu, which is reputed to serve the best French food in the city.

Featured Recommendation: Bambu Indah, Ubud, Bali
If you want to experience the 'real Bali' look past the beaches, clubs and chaos of Kuta and the flash restaurants of Seminyak and take the 40 minute drive north to Ubud. And if you REALLY want to get away from it all you'll want to stay at Bambu Indah villas, the inspiration of world-renowned jewelry designer, philanthropist and environmentalist John Hardy. There are only 4 villas and they all have magnificent views of the Ayung river valley and the rice fields below.

Featured Recommendation: Arun Residence, Bangkok
If you are looking for a place to stay with character, nothing can beat Arun Residence. It’s located on the bank of the Chaopraya River about 10 minutes drive from the Grand Palace. This boutique property is a renovated Sino-Portuguese house and has superb views (particularly at night) of the river traffic and the magnificent Arun Temple on the opposite river bank.

Journeys: Why Is Everyone Going to Bhutan?
Two years ago, Penny George "couldn't have located Bhutan on a map." This fall, she and her husband made the long journey from their home in Minneapolis to Bhutan's sole airport, then spent seven days on a guided tour, trekking into virgin forests, tiptoeing into temples and passing through villages where men and women still go about in...  (Full Story)
