I asked a friend who's lived in Bali for years to recommend a place for Soto (Balinese chicken soup) and he said 'you must go to Warung Made.' Spot on - best Soto in Indonesia and famous for some of the best Balinese/Indonesian food in all of Bali. We went a few times and it was jam-packed most nights with both locals and tourists. We were staying at Anantara Hotel on the beach in Seminyak so could walk to their location in that district - they have another in Kuta

I've only had snacks and drinks at Ku De Ta restaurant/bar that is famous as a destination for those in search of the ultimate venue to watch a bali sunset so I cant comment on the dining. However it lives up to its rep with beach front access + loads of chill out areas that begin to fill up with a hip crowd in the afternoon anticipating the end of a another day. La Luciola (Italian) - Photos

This comes highly recommended by expats in Bali (they say KU DE TA is for tourists, Luciola is for old hands...). It's located on the beach in Seminyak and serves superb Italian food. I've only ever been for lunch but there's nothing like sitting on the upper deck watching the surf crash on the beach.

Reputed to be the best French restaurant in Bali, Kafe Warisan didn't disappoint. The setting, particularly the candlelit courtyard is perfect for couples looking for a romantic evening.
