Touched base with a friend who is based in Hanoi but unfortunately out of town - but who better to ask for some dining recommendations than a locally based expat - so I'll be checking out his suggestions: If you are staying at the Met, try Club 51 on 51 Ly Thai To Street (just behind and down the street - walking distance). Eat upstairs. Nice venue but can be quiet. Otherwise, try Wild Rice or Lotus. Can't remember the addresses. Coffee try Au Lac directly behind the Met again on Ly Thai To Street. You've probably been to Bobby Chinn's at 1 Ba Trieu Street. Again walking distance from the Met. Not Vietnamese but at least somewhere to hang. Besides that, Hanoi is a great city
