A visit to Macau has never, and still is never been complete without a meal at this iconic establishment located near the beach on the outlying Coloanne Island. Until recently the menu was only in Chinese and Portuguese and the way I (and I think most people) knew what to order was to go there the first time with others who had been brought by others who knew what the best dishes were on the menu. The standard order would seem to be: tomato and lettuce salad dressed with vinegar and olive oil (the tomatos actually have flavour), dont miss the clams if they are in season (was there last month and they were back on the menu!), garlic shrimp are a mainstay, roast chicken superb, and the ribs are wicked. The house wine is very drinkable and at about USD10 bucks a bottle a great deal - or you can go for pitchers of refreshing sangria. They do not take reservations on weekends so be prepared to wait up to an hour (you can sit at the courtyard and order drinks and chorizo and cheese while you wait to not so bad). If you want to avoid the lunch and dinner rush particularly on Saturdays roll in about 4-530 - from past experience its much quicker to get a table. Cost - tough to spend over USD30 a head with wine. How to get there - grab a cab at the ferry terminal and tell him 'Fernandos' - they all know it.
