Provide legal advice and assistance to the management and the group’s operational departments in relation to financial services, corporate and commercial legal issues and practices, primarily providing assistance in the effective management and mitigation of litigation/ claims/ enforcement risks.

In-House Litigation Lawyer - SFC, Regulatory, Client Complaints (VP/SVP)

Location: Hong Kong

 

Background

Our client is a top international banking and financial services group with a multi-billion USD market capitalization. You will assist the Legal Department and other internal stakeholders with handling all aspects and types of contentious and litigation disputes. This is a new head count.

 

You must be a HK qualified lawyer with around minimum 5+ years PQE and be able to read and write in Chinese as well as fluent English.

 

Prior experience dealing with regulators such as the SFC is a big plus for this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Report to Head of Legal and regularly collaborate with other key internal stakeholders, such as Compliance, Risk, Credit, Operations departments and sales departments;
  • Provide legal and regulatory advice and support to Business and Compliance in contentious and regulatory matters, prepare submissions and correspondences to regulators and counterparties.
  • Handle contentious and regulatory matters, co-ordinate with external counsel in respect of same, ensure high quality of service and good control of costs;
  • Advise management in relation to legal issues and practices, in particular, effective management and mitigation of litigation/ claims/ enforcement risks;
  • Ensure effective management reporting for the legal function;
  • Handle communication with Head Office relating to contentious and regulatory legal work.
  • Handle ad hoc internal projects and take up other works and responsibilities as assigned (e.g. training, procedures / precedent / checklist development etc.).
  • Assist front office with contentious clients disputes i.e. breach of contract, payments, client complaints and so on.
  • Occasionally assist HR and senior management with staff employment issues/ disputes.

 

Requirements:

  • Hong Kong qualified lawyer (5 years ideally minimum)
  • 7-9 years relevant experience
  • Litigation and dispute resolution related experience necessary
  • Regulatory enforcement related experience preferred
  • Financial services litigation and dispute resolution, employment, insolvency, insurance and regulatory contentious experience will be viewed favorably
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin preferred
