About the Role

About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced legal professional to join the Law Department as a Senior Legal Counsel.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert supporting various business units by adopting a customer-centric approach, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines and company policies.

The candidate will ideally have broad legal experience spanning multiple practice areas such as corporate, commercial, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), litigation, employment, information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), regulatory advisory, data privacy and protection. Prior in-house experience, particularly with exposure to the insurance-related matters and/or regulatory communications, is preferred.

This role offers the opportunity to gain diverse and hands-on experience on multiple legal practice areas in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment, as well as to contribute to driving meaningful change, shaping strategies and supporting key business initiatives across the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory and Support
  • Provide customer-centric and commercially sound legal advice on various business areas, including product development, operations, marketing, distribution, employment, IT and AI and outsourcing.
  • Review and draft contracts and other related documents, including policy contracts / product brochures, marketing agreements / materials, distribution agreements, employment agreements, various product / service procurement agreements and internal documents.
  • Provide pragmatic legal solution and support on day-to-day operational matters, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory and/or contractual obligations.
  • Support strategic projects and initiatives (including participation in relevant committees/taskforces/working groups) to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and enhance operational efficiency.
Regulatory
  • Provide legal support in communications and engagement with regulators including the Insurance Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, and the Monetary Authority of Macao.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on legal and regulatory risks and requirements, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct, guidelines and internal policies.
Contentious
  • Manage disputes and litigations, including working with external legal counsel where necessary.
  • Assist internal teams in handling policyholder claims, coverage disputes, and customer complaints to mitigate associated legal and regulatory risks.
Others
  • Lead and guide junior members of the team to enhance their competence and professionalism.
  • Perform such other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the General Counsel / the Manager.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in Hong Kong with a minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Legal experience (including advisory and support, drafting and review) in multiple practice areas such as corporate, commercial, M&A, litigation, employment, IT, AI, regulatory advisory, data privacy and protection. Insurance law experience is a plus but not a pre-requisite.
  • Experience as an in-house legal counsel in a business environment, particularly within the insurance industry, is preferred.
  • Self-driven and a strong sense of ownership, accountability and integrity, with the ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent judgment, strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability and business acumen to provide solid, clear and solution-oriented legal advice.
  • Logical thinker with a proactive and problem-solving mindset and diligent and detail-oriented contributor, who is capable of navigating complexity and driving meaningful change.
  • Ability to handle multiple and conflicting priorities efficiently.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese.
