Hong Kong's iconic peak tram is expecting a surge in tourist numbers once an upgrade is completed by 2021.

The upgrade will focus on modernizing the peak tram technology while retaining the classic look.

General Manger of the Hong Kong Peak Tram, May Tsang Ying-mei, says she hopes to re-open the tram in time for Chinese New Year and that she expects 2% growth per year thereafter

The Hong Kong Peak Tram was originally opened in 1888 and carried 150,000 passengers to Victoria Peak that year.
