Hi everyone,

I am new to Hong Kong (to Asia in fact!) and my toddler, husband and I are going to Singapore in 10 days after I booked a really cheap deal on Cathay Pacific fanfares (today) for less than HK$1,500 including all the taxes. Pretty amazing. Is this common?

Anyhow, this will be our first vacation trip as a family and I don't know much about Singapore, so can anyone recommend any must visit places? I wanna try the Safari at the zoo as I heard that's pretty good and I think my son will like it too. Any advice would be really welcome.

Also, any recommendations on where to stay with good childcare in the evenings?

Sorry for all the questions. I haven't been in HK long and I'm just getting used to all. Loving it so far though!

Thanks very much!

Hey chrissy,

Singapore can be cheap if you avoid the typical tourist attractions.
For good malay food, try Geylang serai. For good indian food, try Tekka market hawker and for good chinese food, you can try chinatown. They are lined up with good food. Also for a good and affordable local taste, try Adam Road. The typical newton circus can be hell pricey. If you wanna venture a little more, further up east, you can try Spize or Bedok Corner. They sell awesome food.

As for tourist attractions, they are more or less the same price you get from online or over the counter. I prefer over the counter, always.

USS is a must go, though pricey. You can visit botanical gardens, unlike any “gardens” in HK and it’s free. Pack a lunch for a picnic. You should, you must visit the Zoo. You can also try Wild Wild Wet or Adventure Cove.
Sentosa is pretty decently priced if you dun do much but visit the fort siloso and the Pahlawan Beach.
Just make sure you fill your tummy at Vivocity food court before you make a trip to Sentosa.

Always take the trains (avoid 5.30 - 7.30 pm peak hrs). If you are confident, you can ride the buses too. They are really safe and if you get lost, don’t worry, ppl will always be happy to help you or you can call concierge for help.

These are the typical local tricks. Hope it’s not too late to post.
