number for taxi lost and found

I've done the usual stupid thing- and left a jacket in the back of a taxi.Of course, I don't have anything like a receipt or the taxi number plate to help identify which one I was in!Is there a central number I could call to see if it can be found.

I used them a few days ago (I had accidentally dropped my car key in the taxi when I got my wallet out to pay) and it did not work.

I guess it is because I did not offer a reward for it!!
