Do you still pay for anesthesiologist if you don't have an epidural?

Hi

I'm giving birth at the Sanatorium next month. I'd like to try and do it without having an epidural but I want to reserve the right to change my mind! If I don't have one, do I still have to pay for the anesthesiologist? I remember reading somewhere that you do because they are on stand by, bu can't remember if that was about HK or the US.

Thanks!

I believe you only pay when you need it.

You can request it during your labour. The anaethetist can usually get there within 5-15 minutes!

You won't deliver within that time. They don't usually administer epidural if you're so close to giving birth.

In any case, if you do dilate so quickly before the anaethetist arrives, they won't give it to you and you'll be able to save on the costs.

You'll be fine.

My births never go according to plan :-)
