Log in to commentIt is a short taxi ride. You can go to the Shangri-La (next to the station), get a map and ask them to point it out to you... It is a Walmart, it is in China and caters to the local market, so it is not all western goods.
The big walmart is up near the theme parks- about 40 minutes drive from the border. Very localised. No credit cards accepted a few years back either.
A big Walmart is right next to a subway station , but I don't know which one. Perhaps someone can help. It would be the easiest way to get there. There is another Walmart east of Dongmen and within walking distance (15 mins?). Follow the winding road east from the footbridge beside East gate to Dongmen.
The largest Walmart is in SHEKOU, it is a 40 minute taxi from Lo-Wu, about 60 RMB, or it is probably better to take the ferry to Shekou. It is a developing shopping area - there is a B&Q opening soon, and there are other large shops like a Ren Ren supermarket which is almost as large as Walmart. It is really large, but again the selection, while good, is not really amazing. And not much more than the other Walmart closer to Lo-Wu. If you are looking for electonics to bring back to HK try the large GOME store in Hai-dan district (I think that is what it is called, much closer to Lo-Wu, near The Pavillion Hotel) Shenzhen instead. Anyone know which Shenzhen metro stop is next to a Wal-Mart Supercenter?
Nearest is probably Laojie, 3rd stop from Luo Hu (Lo Wu), but it isn't really very close as the train follows Shennan Road and the store is further North. To be honest, Wal-Mart is a Chinese supermarket for local people and nothing like the ones in the US. I have seen the procurement centre for the global stores and almost nothing there can be found in the China stores. There is a Sam's Club which is bigger, but you'll need the member card. I think you can apply for one quite easily. If you are determined to go to Wal-Mart in China, I recommend getting the ferry from the Macau Ferry Terminal in Central/Sheung Wan and going to Shekou. From the ferry terminal you go straight up the road to Wal-Mart - about 5-10 minutes in a taxi (Just ask for "Shekou war-ma", or jump on the 113 bus (looks like a coach). A lot less stressful than Luo Hu, but again, it's a Chinese supermarket with very few imported items. Certainly Park'n'Shop in Hong Kong has more to offer expats.
