Equity Capital Market, VP
About the job
Background:
An SFC-licensed investment bank in Hong Kong (Types 1, 4, 6 & 9), backed by one of China’s major banking groups. The firm has established strengths in Equity Capital Markets, institutional brokerage, and cross-border transactions, with a growing franchise in primary equity distribution and a strong platform for Greater China-related deals.
Background:
We are seeking an experienced ECM professional at VP level to join their Equity Capital Markets team, with a primary focus on primary equity distribution and institutional coverage. This is a key client-facing role responsible for marketing and placing primary equity offerings — including IPOs, follow-on offerings, block trades, and other ECM products — to institutional investors across Hong Kong, Greater China, and the broader Asia region. The successful candidate will work closely with the syndicate desk and origination teams to drive deal flow and build lasting buy-side relationships.
Responsibility:
- Actively market and distribute ECM transactions (IPOs, share placements, block trades, follow-on offerings) to institutional clients, with a strong emphasis on primary market execution and bookbuilding support.
- Develop, maintain, and expand deep relationships with institutional investors including asset managers, hedge funds, long-only funds, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and other buy-side accounts in HK and Greater China.
- Collaborate closely with the syndicate desk, origination, and equity research teams to identify distribution opportunities, support investor targeting, and gather real-time market feedback during live transactions.
- Participate in roadshows, one-on-one investor meetings, NDRs, and conferences to promote ECM deals and enhance the firm’s visibility with key accounts.
- Achieve individual and team primary market revenue and distribution targets while contributing to the overall growth of the ECM franchise.
- Provide timely market colour, investor sentiment, and competitive intelligence to internal stakeholders to optimise deal structuring, pricing, and timing.
- Cross-sell the firm’s secondary trading capabilities, research products, and other capital markets services to deepen client relationships.
- Ensure full compliance with SFC regulations, internal policies, best execution standards, and all applicable laws governing securities dealing and distribution.
Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification (MBA/MSc).
- Minimum 4–7+ years of relevant institutional equity sales or ECM experience, with a proven track record in primary market distribution (IPOs, placements, blocks) within the Hong Kong or Greater China market.
- Strong existing network of institutional buy-side contacts in Hong Kong and/or Greater China, with demonstrated ability to originate and close primary market business.
- In-depth knowledge of HKEX listing rules, ECM processes, bookbuilding mechanics, and the dynamics of China-related capital markets transactions.
- Current or previous SFC licensing (Type 1 – Dealing in Securities) or strong eligibility to obtain licensing is highly preferred. Familiarity with other regulated activities (Types 4, 6, 9) is advantageous.
- Fluent in Mandarin (written and spoken) is a significant advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills with a client-centric mindset.
- Self-motivated, resilient, and commercially driven with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deal-oriented team environment.
- Strong team player with proven ability to work collaboratively across ECM, research, and trading desks.
