Our client, a leading global investment management firm, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join its Hong Kong office. Working directly with portfolio managers, traders, and risk teams, you'll build front-office applications that sit at the heart of the investment process while helping drive technology strategy across the APAC business.
The firm has a highly collaborative, engineering-led culture, where technology is seen as a core driver of performance. Teams are globally distributed, working closely across regions to deliver scalable, high-impact systems.
The Opportunity
This role serves as the regional technology lead within Asia, acting as a key bridge between local investment teams and a globally distributed engineering function. You will combine hands-on development with stakeholder engagement, ensuring local business requirements are translated into impactful, production-ready solutions.
The position offers a rare combination of hands-on engineering, close stakeholder engagement, and the opportunity to influence technology priorities across the APAC business.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technology partner for portfolio managers, traders, and risk teams in the APAC region
- Represent regional priorities within a global engineering roadmap, influencing delivery outcomes
- Design, build, and deploy full-stack solutions across front-end, back-end, and data layers
- Own end-to-end development of critical features, particularly those driven by regional business needs
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams to ensure system consistency and scalability
- Develop tools and workflows that support investment decision-making
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and translate their needs into technical solutions
- Contribute to hiring and represent the team in regional forums
Key Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer in a production environment
- Strong back-end development skills in an object-oriented language (e.g. C# or Java)
- Experience building modern web applications using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue
- Solid understanding of databases and data analysis (SQL required)
- Proven ability to work directly with business stakeholders and influence product direction
- Familiarity with investment workflows (buy-side, trading systems, or risk platforms)
- Comfortable working independently within a global, distributed team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
