Investment Analyst - APAC Autos | Single CIO Hedge Fund

Location: Hong Kong

Overview:

A single CIO long/short equity hedge fund is seeking an APAC Auto Investment Analyst to strengthen its automotive investing capabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with a senior PM and contribute directly to idea generation across a concentrated long/short portfolio. The role offers significant exposure to investment decision-making within a flat and collaborative team structure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct fundamental research across APAC automotive OEMs, EV manufacturers, and auto suppliers.
• Develop and maintain detailed financial models, earnings forecasts, and valuation frameworks.
• Generate high-conviction long and short investment ideas across the automotive value chain.
• Execute channel checks, management meetings, and other primary research initiatives.
• Monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics, policy developments, and technological changes.
• Present investment recommendations directly to investment partners and portfolio managers.
• Support portfolio monitoring and ongoing coverage of existing investments.

Requirements:

• 3-8 years of equity research or investment experience.
• Strong coverage of APAC Autos, EVs, Auto Components, Mobility, or related sectors.
• Buyside or sell-side equity research background with demonstrated stock-picking ability.
• Strong financial modelling and valuation skills; Python proficiency is advantageous.
• Fluent English required; Mandarin highly preferred.
• Experience generating alpha through short ideas is strongly preferred.
• Self-motivated, transparent, intellectually curious, and capable of working independently.
