Legal Counsel
Our corporate investment banking client is seeking an experienced legal professional to join their Hong Kong team. In this role, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor to the Hong Kong office, supporting a broad range of banking transactions and business initiatives while helping to manage legal and documentation risk. Working with appropriate oversight, you will partner closely with business and support functions to deliver practical, commercially sound legal solutions.
Responsibilities:
Act as a key legal resource, advising on transactions, documentation, and day-to-day business matters.
Draft, negotiate, and review a wide variety of legal documents, including general and structured lending facilities, securities and collateral arrangements, structured trade finance, cash management, asset-based lending, acquisition finance, derivatives, debt capital markets products, and service agreements.
Engage and oversee external counsel, reviewing their work product and coordinating their involvement in transactions and projects.
Help design and implement policies and procedures that strengthen the Branch's management of legal and documentation risk, and provide guidance on new business initiatives.
Deliver internal training on legal topics, including coordinating external lawyers where appropriate.
Support the Head Office and other branches on matters involving Hong Kong law.
Identify and escalate complex, material, or non-standard legal issues as needed.
Requirements:
A qualified Hong Kong solicitor with at least 5 years' post-qualification experience, ideally gained in the banking or finance practice of a leading international law firm. Prior in-house experience at a major financial institution is a strong plus.
Solid understanding of the regulatory landscape relevant to a Hong Kong banking branch.
Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese.
Strong communicator and relationship-builder, with a genuine appetite for learning and taking on new challenges.
