Job Title: AVP, VP Legal Counsel

Location: Central, Hong Kong

Company Overview

Our client is a global financial services company headquartered in active in over 35 markets and offices around the world.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, APAC, you will:

  1. Draft, review and negotiate a range of agreements relating to securities and derivatives brokerage, technology, clearing, custody and other related services.
  2. Review and negotiate corporate and commercial agreements.
  3. Advise on financial services regulation, disputes and data protection.
  4. Provide legal support for the onboarding and implementation of major client projects.
  5. Deliver timely, practical and commercially astute legal advice in an efficient and proactive manner.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  1. Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction; qualification in Hong Kong is an advantage.
  2. 4–7+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in a common law jurisdiction. Candidates with less PQE may also be considered if they have substantial pre-qualification experience in financial services or contract negotiation.
  3. Familiarity with regulatory processes, rules and codes in at least one of Australia, Hong Kong or Singapore.
  4. A proven track record at a law firm, financial services regulatory agency, exchange or licensed financial services firm.
  5. Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to identify and explain legal risks clearly and concisely.
  6. A practical, solution-focused approach and a willingness to learn, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  7. Fluency in written and spoken English. Cantonese and Mandarin language skills are an advantage.
  8. Strong relationship-building skills.
  9. Comfort with computers and technology, and an understanding of how technology can address business and regulatory challenges.
