I have lived in hk for a year now and relationship is on tender hooks and I'm desperate to find a competent couples therapist - from my own experience and what my friends have told me there are many cowboys in this town (I have tried two and they were both shocking - inexperienced and incompetent).
Please help.

My wife and I saw Nikki Green, and after my initial hesitation I'm really glad we did. My wife recommended I took the tests on her website and then decide for myself whether I wanted to go see her because I really wasn't keen on the thought of getting help (I'm guy, what do you expect!).
Anyway she's a really good, no-nonsense therapist who'll help you understand where you're going wrong - if fact as I tell my friends who all complain about their relationships that I really don't think it's possible to have a successful relationship without going to some kind of couples/sex therapy - we're just not trained properly for it.
My advice - don't wait until your relationship gets really bad (which it will, I guarantee -especially in this town) - get help early and preserve some of that good stuff that makes you want to get married in the first place.

I don't know if you're married with children or not, but, I second Malka's advise if you are not married. If you can't resolve an issue at the stage of dating by yourselves, you'll have such a difficult time being married with kids.
If you are married, try Dr. Susan Mistler. My husband and I went to her and graduated. She has that "ambience" that dudes will be willing to participate in "couple's therapy."
My husband and I still have our basic disagreements but, going to her made us feel, we can sort it out.

If you need another recommendation, I can say from personal experience that Dr. Sharmeen Shroff at Holistic Central Medical has been really helpful for my husband and I dealing with some difficult growing pains after moving to HK recently too.
Bonus: She also charges the same for one person as she does for a couple. Which is really nice for those of us with relationship difficulties who aren't working in the finance sector!
