My Work visa will be expired in early July, but to be qualified for HK PR application, I need to be employed in HK until the end of July (7 years), which means I will have a 3 weeks gap. Does it mean I will be disqualified for PR application? If yes, is there anyway to close the 3 weeks gap? As my company is sending me to Macau to work so I will be getting a Macau work visa, don’t think this will help, right?

Rachel, ask your company to apply for a short term visa extension for you. You can apply in advance, but your papers will only be processed after the 7 years are over. I'm not sure whether you have to be in the country as on the processing date or when you submit your papers. If you apply too far in advance, they could ask you to re-submit once you've completed 7 years. All depends. So best is if you apply for a visa extension.

Thank all for your advice. I agree that I can submit my application a month in advance, but the key point is I have to hold a valid visa on the 7th anniversary (ie. end of Jul) which wont be the case for me unfortunately.
My company has agreed to apply for work visa extension after expiration initially, that was the reason I accepted to move to Macau (btw, I have already moved to Macau). But after consulting with a local lawyer, the company was advised not to take a risk to “lie” to immigration to apply for HK work visa for me as I am now clearly working in Macau, so I’m screwed!
Not quite sure if there is any way to convince my company that they are not at risk by applying work visa extension for me?

What a waste if you don't get it.
I did 6 years then had to leave HK. I regret it.
I have now done 4 again so 3 to go.
My friend was similar to you. Did soome study for 6 months.
If company won't co-operate only way is to take some leave and do short term study and get study visa.

Immigration typically looks whether you’ve been out for more than 6 months. If you’ve only been out for a month then your company should be fine applying for an extension for you. They have ops in HK, Macau etc so it is understandable that they move people around. It’s in their best interest that you get your PR too as every company in HK has to fulfil the local hiring requirement and getting work visas isn’t easy anymore. If you get your PR, you’ll be a local hire and good for your company.

Thanks for all your suggestions, will try to talk to my company again to see if they will consider to get extension for me. I will probably be transferred to another county (not HK) after Macau, so they don’t really care about local hire, but still a very good argument point! Thanks all, will let you know how it goes...
