I think it is relatively safe depending on where you conduct the surgery. A reputable hospital or clinic should be able to provide good amenities to ensure a successful operation. I suggest you visit the eye clinic and seek consultation from a professional doctor.

Lasik is pretty safe now as there has been advancements in the technology. But I heard of eyes being really dry as a side effect. But I think it only happened for some. It depends

lasik is pretty safe. but you should consult the eye doctor first, because lasik isn't suitable for all.

perhaps go for an eye check up?

I had lasik and I use a computer all the time. Never heard about having to let the eye relax afterwards. My eyesight is perfect and it's the best thing I've ever done.

I think it's something like less than 5% of people that laser eye treatment doesn't work for, and they have problems like dry eyes, or still need glasses, or have a halo-effect around lights at night time. I've heard a few stories like this too.

That's a risk you take. Also, when you go to any lasik centre, they should check you first and see if you are a suitable candidate.

My friend was 800+ shortsighted. She still needed glasses after her surgery but she was still very happy with the results because she was only mildly short-sighted after the surgery and found that to be very convenient.

Of course, that's not to say they can't correct 800+ to make it 20/20 vision. Everyone's different.

even though it's mildly shortsighted, it's good enough that glasses isnt necessary all the time~

laser is ok but there are caveats.

BUT there is a lack of sufficient data yet.

For small corrections the results are best but are not permanent, and it cannot be re-done. It seems to be effective for about 15 years, this is not a long time.

As the corrections get bigger the effective time gets smaller. For people who are very short sighted it may only be partially effective for about 5 years.

Most opticians won't tell you this unless you ask directly.

Hi,

I went to the HK Laser Eye Centre - they do so many lasik treatments, they are really professional. It's like a production-line, but at least you know they must be good because they do so many eyes.

Regarding what Tigerbay said... laser eye surgery lasts forever. So what Tigerbay means is that when you get older and older, your eyesight may change - ie. old people often become long-sighted, or you just start to get short-sighted again.

This is why they recommend you do the treatment when you are young, so that you have plenty of time to enjoy not having to wear glasses. Because when you get older, you will probably need glasses again!

I would still recommend Lasik.

i am actually considering lasik. but as i am still comfortable with glasses-contact lens combination, i haven't got down to do it yet. moreover, glasses are becoming a fashion accessory nowadays.

I was the same way - felt comfortable with lenses and sometimes liked wearing glasses. But you know... you can still wear fake glasses as a fashion accessory, even when you don't "need" them...

i agree that glasses are good fashion accessories. it gives you excuses to look different on different days.
