While Hong Kong is a vibrant, fast-paced city bursting with opportunities, it’s not without its quirks and challenges. For new expats, some of the inconveniences and pests may seem unusual at first, but they’re simply part of everyday life for locals. By understanding and preparing for these challenges, you’ll adapt more easily to the unique rhythm of HK.
 
  1. Air-Conditioner Drips – HK’s ubiquitous air-conditioning is a lifesaver during sweltering summers, but it comes with an annoying side effect, dripping water from old air-conditioning units that may not have proper drainage. You’ll find yourself dodging random drops of water that feel like a mini rain shower. Not exactly refreshing, and definitely not clean!
  2. Cockroaches – Meet the local residents: huge, fast and bold.
