Public Transportation

Green minibuses (GMBs) operate on fixed routes at fixed fares. In April 2018, there were 352 main routes and 183 supplementary routes, employing a total of 3,293 vehicles. In year 2017, GMBs carried about 1,519,500 passengers daily.

Hong Kong's Light Rail network has been an integral part of daily life in the northwestern New Territories since 1988. As more new towns have been established, the Light Rail network has expanded, too. Following the opening of the Tin Shui Wai extension in 2003, the system now covers 68 stops across 36.15kms of track. In addition to serving the growing population of the New Territories, the expanded network also doubles as a feeder service for the MTR at its West Rail Line interchanges at Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Siu Hong and Tuen Mun stations.

The Peak Tram is operating 0700-2400 daily. Tickets can be purchased at the Peak Tram Office, can be found at the lower terminus under St John's Building at the Garden Road.( Opposite of American Consulate)

The Star Ferry traveling through Victoria Harbour is not only an important part of the cross-border transportation system between Hong Kong and Kowloon, but also an itinerary for visitors to Hong Kong. National Geographic Travel Magazine once took the Star Ferry Both sides of the Victoria Harbour are hailed as "one of the 50 must-see attractions in life". Riding the Star Ferry is also one of the best and cheapest sightseeing tours in the region.

Taxis in Hong Kong are all metered, relatively cheap, air-conditioned and clean. The three types of taxis identified by colour: Red for Urban Taxis, Green for New Territories and Blue for this on Lantau Island. The flag down rate ranges from HK$19 to HK$24 for the first 2 km.
