Sports Massage Massage Therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue tightness, joint dysfunction, and pain. Massage can help restore flexibility and range of motion as well as increase overall wellness and relaxation. Sports massage is often used to enhance athletic performance and decrease muscular pain after excessive exercise. Delayed Onset Of Muscle Soreness (DOMS) presents itself 12-24 hours after exerting yourself physically or using a group of muscles that haven't been used in a while. DOMS presents itself as decreased flexibility, limited movement, stiffness, and localized pain. With a deep tissue massage, your body can recover faster, regain mobility, clear lactic acid and therefore return to activity sooner rather than later. Many people also use sports massage to relieve the symptoms associated with everyday postural aches and pains. Massage increases blood circulation, lengthens muscle tissue, improves mobility, reduces trigger points and increases joint range of movement. Pre and Post Natal Massage As your body changes through pregnancy and your Centre Of Gravity shifts, more pressure is exerted on the spine and soft tissue of the lower back. Pre Natal massage has primary benefits such as relieving muscle pain and joint aches, decreasing stress and increasing blood circulation. Secondary benefits include improved quality of sleep, better labor outcomes, decreased anxiety and improved immunity. Many women have reported feeling less bloated, nauseous and constipated after starting a regular massage cycle. We have pregnancy pillows for women coming in with a larger than life bump and it is important for us to make sure that the patient is completely relaxed, comfortable and happy. It helps new mothers with muscle relaxation, decreased lower back pain, improved blood circulation and increased mobility. After a C-section, massage can also help stimulate certain muscle tissue to start activating again and therefore have a strengthening effect. For mothers who are having problems breastfeeding, massage can stimulate breast milk supply through unblocking of milk ducts and can, therefore, make feeding less painful.
