Hong Kong's water supply (wsd)

Hong Kong's water supply is an indispensable part of the livelihood of the people of Hong Kong and critical to the territory's sustainable and long-term developments. The WSD has the mission to provide reliable and adequate supplies of quality water to a population of over 7.3 million.

To address the challenges brought by climate change, we are establishing a six-pronged water supply structure riding on the three current water sources including local yield, Dongjiang water and seawater for flushing, and adding to them three new ancillary water sources which are not susceptible to climate change including desalinated water, reclaimed water, and recycled grey water and harvested rainwater. These six water sources will become our future pillars giving us assurance of water security and reliable supply.
