About the Role
• Supports the Company to efficiently deliver strategic initiatives, lead legal/regulatory risk and act as a trusted business partner for teams within the Hong Kong and Macau businesses.
• This position supports the General Counsel in providing sound and practical legal advice on matters arising from the business and operations of the Company including product developments, distribution channels, operations, claims, litigation and legal/regulatory compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Legal Services Management

Support the General Counsel in leading the legal function by using the available legal resources to deliver a high quality, efficient legal services.
  • Advises the Company on legal/regulatory issues and engages external counsel to advise on major legal issues.
  • Communicates frequently with supervisor to ensure alignment of the Group Law's legal and regulatory policies and ensures such policies are properly executed.
  • Liaises and corresponds with external counsel and regulators.
  • Liaises with Group Legal Team with respect to the implementation of Group-led legal and regulatory policies and group projects.
Legal Support

Advise business teams on legal matters and support project deliver through provision of:
  • legal support in the planning and execution of business initiatives/operations;
  • legal analysis on questions arising from daily operations;
  • participating in committees/task forces to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations, professional conduct rules and guidelines of the relevant regulators;
  • drafting and reviewing legal documentation including commercial transaction documents and policy wordings;
  • advising on litigation and contentious matters;
  • instructing external counsel within or outside Hong Kong;
  • working closely with Local Compliance and Risk Management teams on risk, regulatory and compliance related matters; and
  • supporting the operations and business initiatives of Macau Branch.
People Mentoring

Leads and guides junior members of the team in order to improve their competence and professionalism.
  • Coaches, mentors and motivates the team to build pool of leaders.
  • Ensures a positive work environment with high level of morale, job satisfaction and professional ethics.
  • Delegates work to the appropriate level to optimize results.
  • Encourages the team members to build collaborative relationships with respective business units.
Other Responsibilities
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as periodically assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure team members who perform regulated activities have obtained the relevant licenses and fulfilled the licensing requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Graduate of LLB/Bachelor of Law and admitted to practice Law in Hong Kong as a solicitor or counsel.
  • Minimum 8-year post-qualification experience (PQE) in the legal field.
  • Working experience as in-house lawyer in financial services.
  • Strong in legal drafting and review of legal matters in one or more of the following areas:
    • products brochures/marketing, commercial contracts; distribution contracts including agency; regulatory issues including licensing; IT matters, complaints, claims and customer litigation; commercial litigation; HR legal matters; corporate matters including incorporation and company secretarial work.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
  • Excellent presentation skills and inter-personnel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and project management skills.
  • Possess business acumen, be innovative but detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and as a teammate for the assigned job responsibilities.
  • Ability to deal with and prioritise multiple and changing priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to a new culture.
  • Travel to overseas countries may occasionally be required.
  • You are required to obtain relevant licence if your job involves in regulated activities.
