Salary: market level

Reporting to Director of Research, the major responsibilities of the Deputy Director of Research include:

  • To assist the Director of Research in planning and implementation of the research programs, including developing strategic research themes, priorities projects, and overseeing the implementation of research plans,
  • To lead and manage a series of projects, using appropriate methods and project management, ensuring timely and high-quality impactful business research, especially on Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and SE Asia/Middle East;
  • Representing the Department in both external and internal functions. Coordinate with internal and external parties to enhance operation, impact and image of research output;
  • Monitoring developments in Hong Kong and the global markets that would impact on Hong Kong's trade in products and services;
  • Maintaining close working relationship with the relevant government departments and other research institutes;
  • Ensuring the timeliness, quality and relevance of research output and regular assignments.

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes:

  • Understanding the use of digitalized platform and social media in disseminating of research findings;
  • Excellent knowledge of international politics and economics, the Chinese economy and the Hong Kong economy;
  • Good knowledge of issues relating to international trade, multilateral and bilateral trade relations, laws and regulations relating to international trade;
  • More than 15 years of relevant experience in reputable institutions, in which no less than 8 years in a senior position of heading a sizable research team;
  • Ability in providing intellectual leadership in undertaking macro-economics studies, industry/ consumer surveys and business opportunities in emerging markets;
  • Well respected in the peer group of professional economists and the business community of Hong Kong;

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

  • A postgraduate degree in Economics or equivalent.
  • Good judgement and common sense; an open, accessible personal style with high level of energy and creativity; willing to travel;
  • Good presentation skill and proficiency in English, Cantonese and Putonghua
