This role sits under financial risk management supporting the firm's management and oversight of credit and investment risks which help to safeguard the Group's asset portfolio, investment performance and associated risks. In particular, the role holder is expected to help provide critical credit analytical skills by delivering proactive market insights and credit expertise on key credit risks impacting the portfolio. The role holder is expected to work closely with credit risk teams across the company (mostly within Asia) to facilitate the effective application of limits, policies and standards.
Principal accountabilities:
• Undertake credit analysis on investments to support limit decisions: Review relevant credit materials and produce written recommendations and summaries considering both credit and commercial factors into the decision-making process. Critically review existing materials in lesser developed countries and provide recommendations and suggestions that could enhance overall credit risk analysis at both the Group and LBU level.
• Conduct ad hoc thematic credit and investment research: The Group Head Office generally focuses on the key credit and investment risks that could impact the asset portfolio. As such, thematic reviews and deep dives will largely be driven by key themes that may arise during the course of business with the reviews focussing on assessments of the impact to the Group.
• Proactive monitoring of market news that are most relevant to the Group: The role holder will be the core person in the team that will be relied upon for market insights. Responsible for early warning indicator reviews and other proactive monitoring reports.
• Support the enhancement of the Group's JV monitoring: The majority of this will focus on the Group's China JV hence some knowledge and experience of the China markets will be desirable.
• Risk framework implementation and execution: Assist in the day-to-day management of credit and investment risks through the implementation, execution and maintenance of the policy from a second line perspective.
Support the production of management reporting: Assist in the production of regular Management Information for relevant Group Risk Committees as well as any other ad hoc data requests. Ability to link the
• Work directly with reporting tools and data systems: Direct usage of investment management and reporting tools such as Aladdin (plus accompanying reporting modules), PowerBI, Bloomberg/Refinitiv and other related tools.
• Manage and liaise with key stakeholders: This includes LBUs, Eastspring, Investment Teams and senior management.
• Assist on any ad hoc support.
Core Competences Required:
• Strong credit research and analytic skills is a must i.e. the ability to independently review relevant credit materials and produce thorough written recommendations and summaries;
• Independently source relevant credit materials from public sources to supplement the credit analysis. Good access to market contacts would be desirable;
• China-based coverage preferable. Mandarin speaking also preferable;
• Genuine interest in markets and keeping abreast with developments;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build effective relationships and liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders including senior leaders across different specialisms;
• Excellent written communication skills (in English) is desirable;
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy and apply judgement to the results of analysis, all in the context of materiality and understand "the big picture";
• Able to work independently with a proactive mindset;
• Ability to work under pressure, flexibly deal with workloads, priorities, and deadlines;
• Strong team player, ability to work collaboratively and support business units.
