Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Insurance Distribution Risk.

Principal Responsibilities
  • This is a Second Line of Defence role that supports the Global Insurance CRCO team in effective identification, assessment, management, monitoring and mitigation of distribution risk across all distribution channels in HSBC Life, based on HSBCs Risk Management Framework. The role holder is also expected to work with local and global Risk & Control Owners and other Risk Stewards
  • Partner with the business and risk stewards to provide input into the various distribution-related areas, including recruitment, incentives, end-to-end sales journey, sales quality and performance monitoring to ensure alignment with HSBC requirements and practices
  • Partner with the FLOD to ensure adequate oversight of controls design and operating effectiveness across all areas of distribution, providing robust review and challenge
  • Review and provide SME input on new initiatives requiring Global Insurance Risk approval, per mandatory procedures
  • Contribute actively in the overall distribution related governance, including Global Insurance and local Distribution Committees. Oversee comprehensive risk reporting to relevant committees, ensuring governance is clear and effective and material issues are escalated in a timely manner
  • Partner with the FLOD on various distribution-risk related developments and initiatives including update of Global Insurance Distribution mandatory procedures
  • Support FLOD in ensuring Conduct MI and Distribution Risk KRI/Risk Appetite are appropriately designed and implemented. Review remediating actions and monitor progress for items breaching risk appetite /RAG thresholds
  • Liaise with Global WPB counterparts to support any bank-wide activities of distribution risk oversight/management
  • Monitor and support closure of distribution-related Audit / Second Line / First line identified high risk issues
  • Foster a positive conduct-led risk management culture across the various insurance-owned distribution channels
  • Manage key relationships with key stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong working relationships both within Insurance and across WPB
Requirements

Knowledge
  • Significant experience in more than one technical risk discipline or distribution related experience
  • Insurance and Wealth Experience are preferential
  • Knowledge of sales related processes and controls are desirable but not essential
  • Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment
  • Experience working across different countries and cultures
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and / or liaising with the regulator
Skills
  • Knowledge of the Groups Risk Governance, Risk Management Framework and Risk Policies
  • Knowledge of the Risk Control Framework, including a broad understanding across the various risk types in HSBCs risk profile
  • Strong understanding of the external regulatory environment and internal control environment
  • Strong understanding of Non-Financial Risks, Insurance Distribution Risks
Qualification
  • Typical qualifications would include an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in a risk related discipline
  • A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in financial services industry
