Risk Manager in Asset Management firm

A prominent asset management firm is seeking a Risk Manager to join their team, reporting directly to the Head of Risk in Hong Kong.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Oversight for Investments

  • Analyze and interpret regulatory guidelines and client agreements.
  • Conduct daily compliance monitoring for investment restrictions across funds and portfolios, identifying breaches and collaborating with relevant stakeholders for timely resolution.
  • Review regulatory and client guidelines to ensure existing rules are accurately coded in the system.
  • Escalate any sensitive issues to management for appropriate remediation discussions.

Risk Assessment and Monitoring

  • Exhibit a solid understanding of various investment and risk strategies.
  • Evaluate and monitor strategies regarding their risk budget usage, including stress, market, performance, liquidity, and counterparty risks.
  • Conduct in-depth risk analyses on outliers and identify areas for improvement.
  • Independently assess and monitor risks in investment activities, escalating concerns to management as needed.
  • Facilitate regular risk review meetings between the Investment and Risk teams to stay updated on fund and portfolio risk profiles.

Performance Analysis and Reporting

  • Oversee the Performance Attribution report for both internal and external clients, ensuring quality and adherence to deadlines.
  • Coordinate performance-related topics with the Paris performance team.
  • Address ad-hoc performance inquiries from stakeholders promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance performance analysis processes and controls through technology and automation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Represent the Risk team during fund launches and other events requiring risk input, such as prospectus reviews and operational setups, ensuring all risk requirements are met.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, business partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Support management with special ad-hoc assignments related to the Risk business line.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in risk management or related areas within the financial services sector.
  • Familiarity with various products and businesses within the Asset Management industry is preferred.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a commitment to high-quality work and integrity.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Capable team player who can also work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to a non-technical audience.
