Speechwriter The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow-infrastructure with sustainability at its core. The mission and vision of AIIB's Communications Department (COM) is to build stakeholder trust by creating breakthrough communications that show how AIIB empowers people through infrastructure. COM helps AIIB effectively tell its story. Whether it's preparing official communications for use by and within the Bank, leading storytelling campaigns or initiatives, producing institutional documents, communicating with staff, or informing external audiences about what we do and why we do it-we provide strategic advice and support on how to craft messages, frame narratives, as well as build awareness and positive perceptions of our brand with our internal and external stakeholders.
The Speechwriter at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a key role responsible for researching, drafting, writing and editing speeches, talking points, toasts and other spoken and written communications on behalf of senior AIIB figures, as well as standing up the Bank's first Speaker's Bureau. This position reports to the Communications Department at AIIB. The role requires a deep understanding of AIIB's role in international affairs and the ability to effectively communicate the Bank's mission, vision and achievements to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Craft high-quality speeches, talking points and other written materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity and alignment with the Bank's strategic objectives.
- Develop and manage AIIB's Speaker's Bureau, shaping its strategic approach to global engagement and curating internal experts for external speaking opportunities.
- Research and synthesize complex topics related to infrastructure finance, sustainability, and international development to inform and enhance content creation.
- Provide strategic communication advice to senior leadership on messaging and public speaking opportunities.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, including the Director General of Communications, to ensure speeches and public remarks are tailored to resonate with both internal and external audiences.
- Work across multiple departments to gather insights and information necessary for consistent and impactful messaging in all speeches and communications.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, event organizers, and media partners to coordinate speaking engagements, ensuring AIIB maintains a strong, positive public presence.
- Provide training and coaching to internal subject matter experts, helping them refine their public speaking and communication skills to represent AIIB effectively.
- Oversee the smooth execution of the Speaker's Bureau, including developing timelines, managing resources, and tracking success metrics for speaking engagements.
- Ensure speeches and communications meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy, clarity, and relevance.
- Adapt writing styles to suit different formats, occasions, and audiences, ranging from formal addresses to informal remarks.
- Continuously assess the effectiveness of the Speaker's Bureau and make adjustments to improve reach and engagement in line with AIIB's strategic objectives.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field. An additional two years of relevant working experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
- At least 5-8 years of progressive experience in in drafting high-quality written materials, including speeches, in English is required.
- Strong knowledge of international political, economic and social affairs issues, including the work of AIIB, is desirable.
- Experience working with international organizations or multilateral institutions is desirable.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
