(Deputy) Head of Operation - Banking

My client is a well-established banking group based in Hong Kong, engaged in both Retail and Corporate banking. They are seeking a senior-level candidate to head their operations team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage all operational functions, including General Banking Operations, Customer Service, Channel Support, Investment Treasury Operations, and General Administration, ensuring efficient and cost-effective service delivery to clients.
  • Lead the Operations team to act as a strategic partner, providing support to all business units to enhance business growth and development.
  • Participate as a senior leader in the Operations Group, contributing to the formulation of comprehensive operational strategies. Assist in achieving operational goals, KPIs, and KRIs, including budget management, risk oversight, product support, and operational services as outlined by senior management.
  • Develop, assess, and implement various operational guidelines, including compliance frameworks, Business Continuity Plans, and Disaster Recovery strategies, in response to legal and regulatory changes. Establish relevant operational policies and procedures.
  • Initiate, plan, and execute bank-wide automation and cost-reduction projects, quality and risk management programs, and various compliance activities. Seek synergies between the Bank and other entities within the Group.
  • Lead re-engineering initiatives within Operations and support the rollout of new products and services. Review and refine processes to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and operational risk control in line with organizational objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Enhance the capabilities of the Operations team through training and development initiatives. Identify and nurture talent while reducing dependence on manual processes by promoting digitalization and system automation to free up staff for more strategic tasks.
  • Prepare the annual Operations budget, ensuring adherence to approved expenditure limits. Implement strategies to lower operational costs through process reviews and simplifications, contributing to the overall reduction of the cost-income ratio.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 13 years of relevant experience in banking or reputable financial institutions, with a minimum of 8 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Degree in a relevant field; advanced degrees (Masters or higher) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of banking management, operations, compliance, and re-engineering.
  • Extensive experience managing technical teams in application development, operations, and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project management methodologies, leadership skills, and diverse banking operations, including investment products and facilities management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with strong leadership abilities.
