We are seeking a highly skilled System Engineer to join our client, a Tier 1 Global Investment Bank on a 12 months' contract with the potential to extend.
The role involves providing critical support for large-scale, distributed systems, ensuring the seamless operation of our Equities trading business. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Incident and Production Support:
- Provide day-to-day production support for massive-scale, distributed systems, managing incidents and crises with precision and efficiency.
- Ensure a comprehensive approach throughout the entire incident management lifecycle, including root cause analysis and resolution.
Operational Risk Management:
- Proactively manage the operational risks associated with a complex and fast-moving Equities trading business.
- Monitor and measure system availability and health, ensuring system resilience and reliability.
Service Reliability Engineering:
- Support services pre-launch by conducting system design consulting, capacity planning, and platform reviews.
- Enhance or implement production support tooling to improve monitoring and performance.
Global Collaboration:
- Work as part of a global team spread across Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, collaborating with counterparts on local and global initiatives.
- Partner effectively with teams across Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, China, and India to deliver seamless support and innovative solutions.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
- Incident Management: Solid knowledge and experience in the incident management lifecycle, with a systematic approach to problem-solving.
- UNIX/Linux: Proficient in UNIX/Linux environments, with in-depth knowledge and experience supporting applications in these platforms.
- Programming Skills: Professional expertise in at least one programming language, with a willingness to learn new languages and paradigms.
- Networking Concepts: Strong understanding of key networking concepts to troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong analytical capabilities, with the ability to break down complex problems, communicate ideas clearly, and provide multiple solutions.
- Experience in supporting electronic trading environments, with the ability to manage and resolve issues under pressure.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience working and collaborating with global teams, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
- Comfortable engaging business users and explaining technical solutions to non-specialist audiences.
