Job Purpose:

Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of databases systems within the bank.

This role involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, performing regular system maintenance, and implementing updates to enhance system performance and security. Additionally, the job incumbent will need to collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations, maintain detailed records of system performance, and provide technical guidance to optimize the use of database resource.

Responsibilities: Install and configure database software on servers: ​

· Set up and maintain database instances and environments, including Oracle RAC, DB2, MSSQL and Sybase in Open platform.

· Configure database parameters and options for optimal performance and security. ​

Database Design and Development: ​

· Collaborate with application developers to design and optimize database schemas. ​

· Create and modify database objects such as tables, indexes, and views. ​

· Define and enforce data integrity constraints and referential integrity. ​

· Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and other database code. ​

· Optimize SQL queries and database performance through indexing and query tuning. ​

Database Security and Access Control: ​

· Implement and manage database security measures, including user authentication, authorization, and access controls. ​

· Define and enforce data privacy and confidentiality policies. ​

· Monitor and audit database access and activities to ensure compliance.

· Implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity. ​

Database Performance Monitoring and Tuning: ​

· Monitor database performance metrics and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. ​

· Analyze and tune database queries and SQL statements for optimal execution. ​

· Optimize database configuration parameters and resource utilization. ​

· Conduct database performance testing and capacity planning. ​

Patch and Upgrade ​

· Perform software upgrades and patch management to address end-of-support and security vulnerabilities. ​

· Upgrade any legacy End-of-Support (EOS) databases and their related components to ensure continued vendor support and system reliability​

Governance & Reporting ​

· Maintain documentation for audits and compliance reviews. ​

· Conduct System Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user account reviews on a semi-annual basis.

· Provide monthly system performance reports. ​

· Prepare annual capacity planning reports. ​

​Disaster Recovery & Resilience ​

· Set up and maintain database backup jobs to ensure data protection and recoverability.

· Prepare and maintain system disaster recovery (DR) failover procedures. ​

· Activate and support DR systems during annual DR drills. ​

​

Incident & Problem Management ​

· Conduct incident resolution efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive and corrective actions​.

​

Project & Change Management ​

· Liaise with vendors for procurement, installation, support of relevant hardware and software. ​

​ Requirements:

Education and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

• Formal training or certifications in Oracle, IBM database administration are highly valued.

• Candidate possess Technical Certifications such as Oracle OCP, IBM Certified Database Administrator is desirable.

Work Experience:

• 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar focused role

Technical Skills:

· Hands-on experience in database administration, including Oracle RAC, DB2, MSSQL

· Proven experience in managing database backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.

· Familiarity with End-of-Support (EOS) database upgrades and lifecycle management.

· Strong understanding of audit and compliance requirements, including documentation, SAT, and user access reviews.

· Proficient in generating system performance and capacity planning reports.

· Experience coordinating infrastructure changes and working with vendors for database-related hardware and software. Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
