An international financial services firm is looking to expand its team by hiring a legal counsel. They are seeking a qualified lawyer from Australia or Hong Kong with 3 to 8 years PQE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support to the Legal team, offering expert advice to management, internal business units, and middle/back offices.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve legal issues, including drafting and reviewing agreements and documents, and advising on appropriate legal actions.
  • Serve as the primary legal liaison with counterparties' Legal Departments as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Deliver timely legal updates to management, business units, and middle/back offices.
  • Regularly review internal policies and documents, promptly escalating and reporting potential legal risks or concerns to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with external counsel and affiliates from securities firms as required.
  • Undertake ad hoc legal projects and transactions as assigned.
  • Assist the Company Secretary with corporate governance and company secretarial duties.

Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer in Australia and/or Hong Kong, holding a university law degree or JD.
  • 3-8+ years of relevant legal experience in Australia and/or Hong Kong, acquired in law firms or in-house at securities firms and/or investment banks.
  • Broad expertise in legal and regulatory advisory across various disciplines, including corporate law, data privacy, anti-competition, litigation, employment law, and financial/securities law.
  • Familiarity with Equity Sales and Trading, Fixed Income Sales and Trading, Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), and/or Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A).
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, including corporate law, common law, financial/securities law, and data privacy law.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team player, engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Responsible, adaptable, eager to learn, and well-organized, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management abilities, capable of delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, strong work ethic, integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality.
