This team leads the implementation of the Group's people strategy in line with our business objectives. It facilitates talent management, succession planning, and employee mobility while defining and overseeing frameworks that support employee performance management, reward, learning and development, resourcing and engagement.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Learning Hong Kong.

Role purpose

The Head of Learning Hong Kong is responsible for the regional learning agenda for the HK Business and the HK geography. The role plays a critical part in enabling business performance through the local and regional execution of learning strategy and deployment of global learning solutions. Working closely with the Head of Learning - Asia and ME and the wider Enterprise Learning team, this role ensures that enterprise learning products are relevant, impactful, and deployed aligned to the needs of the HK business and the HK geography.

The role manages a local and regional team, and partners with business leaders, PG&C teams and subject matter experts to support the market-specific capability agendas and to shape learning priorities in the country, whilst ensuring consistency with global frameworks. It ensures that the market-specific learning needs are well understood and reflected in the learning solutions, while making efficient use of resources to deliver maximum impact.

The role holds a regional topic in the Learning agenda (ie. CIB, IWP, Infrastructure, etc.) to guarantee connection at a local, regional and global level.

This role combines elements of consulting, solution design, and delivery oversight. It requires strong cross-cultural collaboration skills, an enterprise-wide mindset, systems thinking and the ability to navigate complexity across markets.

Impact on the Business / Function

  • Represent the Enterprise Learning in the market and region, acting as a key point of contact for market and regional business leaders and PG&C colleagues
  • Translate market and regional learning priorities into market learning plans that reflect local/ regional market needs, business challenges and workforce capabilities
  • Draws on insights from local and regional Learning teams to shape learning responses that are both globally aligned and locally resonant
  • Leverage global Learning Academies, programmes and tools to meet market skill needs, ensuring consistency of standards
  • Contribute market-specific business insights and learner feedback into the global Enterprise Learning team to shape product evolution and influence the broader capability strategy
  • Work flexibly across markets, adapting learning approaches to suit different organisational contexts, regulatory requirements, and cultural expectations


Customers / Stakeholders

  • Build relationships with market and regional business leaders, PG&C colleagues, including the Enterprise Learning and Talent teams, and subject matter experts
  • Partner with market PG&C colleagues and business stakeholders to identify market-specific learning needs and advocate for relevant global solutions that address these
  • Act as a key liaison between global learning teams and local / regional market teams, ensuring global products are understood and adopted
  • Collaborate with SMEs, local / regional PG&C, including communications and change teams, and relevant global Enterprise Learning colleagues/ product owners and Architecture teams to co-create and embed learning solutions and ensure they align with related initiatives and our Learning ecosystem
  • Manage market and regional stakeholders during programme deployment, including communications, feedback loops and change readiness
  • Advocate the learner experience in the country, gathering market specific feedback to enhance content, formats and delivery channels


Leadership & Teamwork

  • Represent the region and country within the Enterprise Learning team, ensuring market-specific needs are considered in strategic planning and product development
  • Work collaboratively with peers across other markets and Enterprise Learning colleagues to share insight, align deployment efforts and deliver a consistent learning experience
  • Contribute to a culture of agility, feedback and continuous improvement, working openly across teams, markets and business lines
  • Role model continuous learning, growth mindset and values-aligned behaviours in your day-to-day work
  • Support capability uplift within the market PG&C community by sharing tools, resources and good practice


Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Coordinate local and regional deployment of learning programmes, ensuring consistent execution across local markets
  • In the regional remit, partner with market L&D teams to adapt implementation plans for local needs whilst maintaining global integrity
  • Monitor and report on programme engagement and impact, providing insights to the global team for continuous improvement
  • Ensure all market-specific learning activity complies with local regulatory requirements and global policies
  • Maintain strong operational processes, including stakeholder management, vendor management (where relevant), and accurate data management
  • Apply agile principles to delivery - testing, iterating and refining based on learner feedback, business input and performance data
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and bank policies, monitoring audit and risk management reports and initiating corrective actions where necessary


Functional Knowledge

  • Multi-disciplinary skill set with expertise across learning design, technology, data and analytics, business consulting, change and performance enablement, and content curation and knowledge management
  • Experience of project management and coordinating delivery through others
  • Experience of working in a large matrix organisation, ideally international, and managing stakeholders in cross-cultural environments
  • Regulatory and compliance awareness
  • Cantonese speaking is an important element to engage with local stakeholders


Critical Skills, Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within multiple disciplines or a fast changing discipline
  • The role requires a comprehensive understanding of several value units / products / regions / legal entities, alongside an advanced understanding of the industry and the relative positioning of the HSBC's products and services.
  • Management responsibilities for a sizeable team of professionals (including responsibility for budget, and planning)
  • Covers a wide range of diverse activities that require complex judgements and solutions based on conceptual thought and strategic vision and analysis
  • Is proactive in developing ideas, continuously searching for improvements in techniques which add value to the business and has full responsibility for implementation
  • Latitude to make decisions outside of established procedures but within a policy framework. Broad guidelines are available. Role implements strategy set by others.
  • Implements business plans through own team and is accountable for results.
  • The role requires the ability to guide, persuade and influence others through the developed skills of communication and diplomacy
  • Establishing effective collaborative relations with external organisations is a critical part of the job.
