Principal Economist, China/Emerging Markets

Your role: To lead a team of economists to drive research projects that are of high relevance to Hong Kong’s trade and business environment (esp. SMEs) and the Client’s business strategy; The Client is a leading public body in Hong Kong Monitor and provide timely analysis on overseas market regulations and trade policies that affects Hong Kong’ key export industries; Manage external consultants in undertaking commissioned research projects; Act as spokesperson on designated topics to the public

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience, plus an contract-end gratuity.

Your role:

  • To lead a team of economists to drive research projects that are of high relevance to Hong Kongs trade and business environment (esp. SMEs) and the Clients business strategy; The Client is a leading public body in Hong Kong
  • Monitor and provide timely analysis on overseas market regulations and trade policies that affects Hong Kong key export industries;
  • Manage external consultants in undertaking commissioned research projects;
  • Act as spokesperson on designated topics to the public and undertakes outreach activities, such as developing workshops/seminars, and makes presentations.

Requirements:

  • Relevant university degree in Economics or related disciplines
  • A minimum 10 years of proven track records in research with at least 15 years of working experience; (Candidate with lesser experience will be considered as Assistant Principal Economist)
  • Strong knowledge of international trade, the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kongs business environment. Knowledge of Hong Kongs SME operations is an added advantage;
  • Strong knowledge of Asian and Emerging Markets business environment is an added advantage;
  • Ability to lead and inspire a highly competent team, preferably with 5-8 years in managerial level;
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent writing skills in both English and Chinese;
  • Fluent in English, Cantonese and Putonghua;
  • Agile personality with a strategic mindset, excellent judgement, strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • To undertake research trips to various markets, such as the Chinese Mainland, ASEAN, Middle East and Africa ;
  • Knowledge of econometric modelling and statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS) is an added advantage.
