Head of Non-Financial Risk for Equities and Global Debt Markets, Asia. Role purpose Non-Financial Risk is a function (1LoD) that sits within the MSS business and helps managing non-financial and new risks in the business, including but not limited to governance, operational, conduct and product lifecycle risk.
The role will oversee the control and conduct framework within the regional business, supporting the regional Equities and Global Debt Markets business by owning and ensuring effective execution of global governance, assurance, conduct and control standards, or defining where specific/relevant to the regional business. The role will need to work closely with the respective businesses, the business management community, risk stewards and support functions to collectively ensure the effective implementation and design of control standards, governance and procedures with the aim of sharing and promoting best practice.
Your main responsibilities will include: - Key Accountabilities: Leading the non-financial risk management agenda for Equities and Global Debt Markets Asia by supporting the business in the effective design of the control framework and to ensure its ongoing operating effectiveness within an agreed risk appetite.
- Conduct: Help drive the conduct agenda for Equities and Global Debt Markets Asia
- Control:
- Assist in the design and to help monitor the operating effectiveness of the control framework, escalating control issues as necessary
- Work closely with support functions to ensure robust controls are in place and act as an additional point of escalation with regards downstream control issues. Influence support functions in their remediation of control gaps.
- Assurance: Review the output of desk/control reviews, thematic reviews and other remediation/assurance work and monitor actions to ensure effective closure in a timely manner
- Governance Forums: Ensure that the agenda / contents of the NFR and other forums as required is 'fit for purpose' so that key control issues and emerging risks are appropriately discussed and addressed. - act as secretary to the meeting, ensure pack is produced, set the agenda and drive the focus on key control issues and emerging risks
- Escalation Point: Act as an additional point of escalation with respect to internal control issues (including red flags) for Equities and Global Debt Markets Asia
- Audit:
- Act as one of the principal contacts point for Audit for the business
- Assist in ensuring the execution of desk/control reviews, thematic reviews and other remediation/assurance work as required
- Monitor the implementation of the Management Action Plans to ensure timely remediation and enhancements and incorporated in the control environment
- Risk Control Assessment:
- Drive the RCA for the business and ensure that the risk assessment is reviewed on a periodic basis
- Act as the gate-keeper thereby ensuring ongoing integrity is maintained and that issues and actions are followed up on a timely basis.
- Change:
- Drive the identification of control enhancements within the current control environment and therefore the control change agenda for the asset class
- Challenge and advise on other business changes which may impact key controls for the business
- Leadership/Management
- Manage any staff in the team ensuring
- Objectives and priorities are set, allocated and managed
- Good performance is praised, poor/inconsistent performance/ areas needing improvement are promptly identified and resolved
- Staff of sufficient calibre and experience are in place
- Support the business and the NFR teams in the development of a stronger control and conduct culture in Equities and Global Debt Markets Asia.
To be successful in this role, you will bring: - Strong understanding of markets businesses front to back processes and products.
- Strong knowledge of Equities and Global Debt Marmets business internal controls and risk management, coupled with experience in business management, audit or risk, compliance or controls in a markets and securities services environment.
- Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues as they occur, using a sense of urgency and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build strong stakeholder relationships, negotiate, positively influence and work effectively with senior business leaders across business lines and geographies
- A strategic critical thinking style with strong project management skills to enhance procedures and controls and drive change to achieve organisational goals
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities under pressure, maintaining attention to detail.
- A strong team focus with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently, willing to roll-up the sleeves to get things done.
- Strong understanding of rules and regulatory requirements.
- Previous experience of managing the regulators and Exchanges.
