We are seeking an inquisitive and technical person to join our team in the role of Quant Developer.

There is an increased focus on using our capital optimally and managing credit risk in a way that both helps improve our business profile and ensures compliance with an increasing complex regulatory environment. The role holder will help in designing and building the next generation of tools that can be used by the business to leverage capital and credit models to optimize our business strategy and understand the risk profile at a deeper level.

You will support the Core Quant Analytics function in partnering with Product specialists across the regions - especially within Credit and Capital Management and Group Risk Analytics - to ensure models are optimised to serve the broader CIB franchise and structural market conditions in each region. You will lead workstreams to drive the development of an industry leading analytics platform within the Felis Wholesale Analytics Platform. This will include working in cross-functional teams to both enhance the existing code base and develop new capabilities required to support the longer-term strategic vision of CCM.

You will be required to deliver best-in-class credit analytics that will support the frontline in delivering ambitious revenue uplift targets, leverage capital models to optimize business strategy, and enable greater visibility of the firms balance sheet.

In this role you will:
  • Support the build of a state-of-the-art code library and development environment.
  • Maintain our commitment to a global code base, proactively engaging in peer reviews, ensuring stakeholders are informed of breaking changes and ensuring DevOps principles are adopted.
  • Carry out statistical profiling of disperse datasets representing inputs into the return on equity of the business identify opportunities to optimise one or more aspects of profitability metrics with a focus on product pricing.
  • Support the design and calibration of the relevant credit framework.
  • Partner with wider Credit Quants team and client facing teams in the design of capital & resource efficient products ensuring the tooling is available to monitor the performance of those products.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders within Credit and Capital Management, Group Risk Analytics; and wider stakeholders across the Global Businesses and Global Functions (e.g. IT, Wholesale Data, Treasury, Finance etc)
  • Act as trusted advisors, partnering with stakeholders and providing constructive challenge where necessary
  • Contribute towards the Quants hub organization" approach - sharing SME expertise/knowledge, and connecting disparate teams
  • Ensure projects adhere to HSBC's Operational Effectiveness & Controls policies
  • Comply with all required internal policies and external rules or laws, taking into account all of the relevant policies and rules applicable to any given business process


To be successful you will need:
  • Broad banking experience in financial services, with preference for those who have focused on credit, rates or cash management markets.
  • Experience of working with production level analytical systems and model deployment.
  • Experience in code architecture, OOP, systems design, code optimisation and test-driven development.
  • Experience with SQL / NoSQL databases
  • An understanding of Data Exchange Application Programming Interface (APIs)
  • Be highly numerate with experience of software development and experience in a range of coding languages, e.g. Python, Java, C++.
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen, with experience in a Strats / quant / analytics / data function.
  • Experience with financial data and data analytics.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to take the initiative and think on your feet.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience of preparing and presenting recommendations to managers and other stakeholders.
  • An ability to achieve results both collaboratively and individually.
