Overview of Department The Trading team execute orders on the instructions of the investment teams. Across the life cycle of a trade, ensure we are doing our best to protect our clients' assets by enhancing performance and mitigating operating risk.
Purpose of Role To maintain an efficient and adaptable trading service for the investment department. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external counterparts.
This specific role sits within the Asia team and will have responsibility for regional trading and prepare for onshore A-share trading. The successful candidate will join a team of 2 in the Asian offices. The position is based in Hong Kong and reports to the Senior Trader in Hong Kong. The candidate is expected to travel to the firm's headquarters in Edinburgh as and when necessary.
Responsibilities - Support and contribute to the long-term strategic vision for the firm's trading function, managing key person risk and clear succession planning
- Deliver best execution and ensure that the investor's underlying objectives are implemented in a cost effective and timely manner whilst efficiently managing client cash balances
- Manage relationships with trading counterparts to facilitate a high standard of execution, enhancing performance whilst mitigating operating risk
- Participate in a periodic review of trading counterparty execution quality whilst working with our Trading Data Analyst to develop the use of trading analytics
- Maintain excellent communication with investors; provide regular updates on the progress of orders and keep them well-informed on market colour around stocks in their portfolios
- Work with the local manager on ensuring dealing projects are progressing efficiently; help implement innovative new products and processes for the benefit of our clients
- Undertake continued personal development through training and external engagement whilst engaging in the training of others
- Adhere to industry and in-house regulations and standards to ensure compliance with regulations and all clients are treated fairly
- Represent the firm during client tours, conference calls and due diligence visits and pitches as required; oversee RFP responses and data requests
- Maintain up to date dealing procedures
Qualifications - Registered with SFC as representative under Type 1 Regulated Activities
Your knowledge and experience - Fluency in English required. Other Asian languages is an advantage
- Relevant experiences as Equity Trader in Hong Kong, preferably with exposure to Asia market
- Well equipped with asset management / investment knowledge particularly equities
- Independent, self-motivated, well organised, detail-oriented and able to work with minimum supervision
- The Flexibility and enthusiasm to work in a small team to achieve a common goal.
- Presentable, demonstrate confidence in interpersonal interactions
- Embrace diversity and strong ability to work with local and global colleagues across departments
- Advanced presentation & communication skills
The type of candidate that we're looking for: The successful candidate will work closely with the local manager to drive forward our team strategy, be prepared to challenge existing processes & preconceptions and put forward new ways of doing things for the benefit of our clients. The successful candidate will also maintain an efficient and adaptable dealing service for the investment teams across asset classes, ensuring best execution and adherence to industry & in-house regulations and standards.
