Description As part of DAC Beachcroft's ongoing expansion of the firm's global offering to clients across insurance, shipping, international trade, and commodities, we are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join our recently opened Hong Kong office.
Our Hong Kong Insurance Team provides advice to global Insurers and their Insureds across a wide spectrum of classes of insurance but with a particular focus on Financial & Professional Lines and Property/Casualty business. Most of its work consists of advising on coverage and defence of high-value, complex disputes frequently with an international dimension.
The global Shipping, Trade & Commodities team is led from Hong Kong, given its pre-eminence as a maritime centre, and services the entire range of shipping and commodities trading work, on both contentious and transactional aspects. The team's expertise ranges from ship finance, ship sale & purchase, shipbuilding, all aspects of marine casualties including collisions, fires, marine hull (and cargo) claims, charterparty disputes and all aspects of international and commodities trading, both physical and derivatives.
We are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join the team and support the firm's drive to become the go-to insurance, shipping and international trade firm in the SAR.
Key Responsibilities - Drafting legal documents and assisting legal work
- Conduct legal research and prepare concise summaries
- Assist with case preparation, discovery, and trial bundles
- Maintain case files and document management systems
Liaise with courts, regulators, and external counsel - Provide all rounded administrative and secretarial support to partners and lawyers, including manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate travel
- Format, type and edit documents
- Prepare correspondence, memos, and reports
- Support billing, time entry, and expense reporting
- Liaise with Singapore finance team as necessary
- Manage client onboarding administration, including file opening/closing, engagement letters, conflict checks, and AML/Compliance issues
- File and organize legal documents (electronic and hard copy)
- Handle ad hoc tasks as and when require
- General office support
- Coordinate internal meetings and logistics
Support team with basic administrative tasks as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise - 3-5 years' experience gained at law firms
- Dynamic and driven, with the ability to work independently with initiative, discretion, and confidentiality
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
Personable and confident, able to build relationships with fee-earners at all levels and clients - Proficient in English, Mandarin and Cantonese
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
- Proficient in legal research tools (LexisNexis/Westlaw) and document management systems
