Data Tech Lead Reference Data. Role Purpose We are seeking a strategic and experienced Reference Data Lead to own the end-to-end design, management, and evolution of HSBC's Product and Static Reference Data platforms. This role is pivotal in ensuring a single, trusted source of reference data across all lines of business, supporting critical business processes, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
As part of the Reference Data Technology domain, you will be accountable for the full lifecycle of reference data management-including data capture, lifecycle management, change monitoring, and provisioning to consuming applications via standardized APIs, Enterprise Data Products, and event-driven integrations.
Principal Accountabilities - Lead the global strategy and delivery for Product and Static Reference Data platforms, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory requirements.
- Design and govern reference data mastering rules and golden record formation to establish a consistent, high-quality reference data truth.
- Oversee data change monitoring using internal and external data sources, ensuring timely updates and data integrity.
- Provision mastered reference data to consuming systems through standardized APIs, EDAs, and event-based patterns.
- Ensure platform scalability, resilience, and compliance across global markets, adhering to data localization and privacy regulations.
- Partner with business, technology, CDAO, and risk stakeholders to meet critical business and regulatory use cases.
- Embed data governance, metadata management, lineage, and control mechanisms to support audits, lineage, and data usage transparency.
- Drive architectural modernization, automation, and cloud-readiness of the reference data platform.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of product managers, analysts, engineers, and vendor partners to deliver on roadmap priorities with agility, security, and operational discipline.
- Represent Reference Data in enterprise forums, data councils, and regulatory reviews where reference data management is a focus.
Qualifications & Experience Essential Experience: - 15+ years in platform product management, data engineering, platform development, or enterprise technology roles, preferably within reference or product data domains.
- Strong expertise in reference data mastering, golden record management, and integration frameworks.
- Practical experience designing master data solutions, including non-functional, data entitlement, and auditing requirements.
- Deep understanding of enterprise data architecture, API platforms, event-driven systems, and metadata-driven design.
- Hands-on experience with data service design (APIs, e.g., REST and event messaging), and data quality tooling.
- Familiarity with data privacy, localization, and regulatory frameworks relevant to reference data (e.g., ISO).
- Experience delivering global solutions in complex data residency environments.
- Proven ability to lead global teams and deliver complex platforms serving multiple lines of business and regions.
- Track record of delivering business-aligned solutions using data that support product lifecycle, onboarding, and risk management processes.

Role can be hired in Hong Kong, London or Sheffield. The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting.
